Took the two new ones out (haven’t picked up the next two yet) and ran a box of 25 00 9 pellet and a box of slugs through each. Night and day difference compared to the 590s.
Shotgun 1
Buckshot shot at distances used during qual, plus a 15 yard shot. The slug shots out of the oval were my fault, not the shotguns. Slugs were fired at 50ft, which is what the state qual calls for.
Shotgun 2
The second head shot by the ear was all me. Rushed it.
I’ll post up more details after we run the dog piss out of them in a couple weeks.

I'm interested in hearing your experience with the new 870 as I am in the market for another shotgun myself. I want to pick up a Shockwave or Tac-14 and basically Form 1 immediately while E Forms are still quick. We use 870s at work, but our armorer works on a few issued Mossbergs, too. He told me he preferred Mossberg these days, especially since Remarms just started and have no real track record.
I have checked out both. I expected the Mossberg to be a clunker, but the fit and action appeared to be really good. I also checked out a Tac-14, which I expected to be iffy, but the fit appeared to be great on that one, also. Truth is, I like them both and lean towards Mossberg just because of my armorer's recommendation, but I want to hear from people with more experience. I have also read with interest some of the stories of extractors tearing through cheap rims, so I wonder if the dual extractors might give me a measure of safety.
Realize this is an older post, but thought I’d chime in. I have a newer 870 HD that I replaced the bead barrel with a factory sighted slug barrel. Along with the factory sling swivel clamp, I installed an aftermarket flashlight clamp. Between the two, I have had zero issues with the barrel getting loose. If anything, it’s a PITA to remove for cleaning. Just dropped it off to get the stock shortened. That’s been bugging me since I got it. An inch and a quarter off of it should work out well.
Working diligently to enlarge my group size.
I was really ambivalent about the things and went through a long phase of trying out a cubic crapload of various caps, extensions and whatnot. I did notice a tendency for some combinations to "shoot loose," but the factory extensions with the clamp kept things pretty solid (at least once I discarded some unfortunate "gun expert" advice I had gotten about assembling them).
One day in a chance conversation I mentioned about how it needed a screwdriver... and it took extra effort to get everything apart, and so on, and so forth. The response - and I quote - was, "It's a ******* CLAMP! Think about it!" Brutal, but I got the point.

Picked up 2 more. These have synthetic stocks.

I saw two new 870s at a more tactically oriented shop in PA last week. The 18.5” bead sight model was drilled/tapped. The 18.5” peep sight model had a XSish peep with a separate rail section installed in those same holes, a white beaded blade front sight, a Remington magazine tube and standoff type choke tube.
Home in WV this week I saw a nice 28” vent rib sporting 870 in a store and noticed that it was drilled and tapped also.
Apparently the new improved RemArms realizes that sights, RDS and scopes are a thing these days. I may have to get one.
