Former optician here, I made and sold glasses.

For folks with myopia (short-sighted in common English), correcting fully for long distances can compromise clarity at shorter distances once you start having symptoms of presbyopia; this typically starts happening at about age 30, but typically doesn't become a problem until later in life.

For far-sighted persons (hyperopia), I don't think there's a particular advantage in not fully correcting for long distances; but as I'm not one of those folks, I can't say from personal experience. I'm also blessed with only a token astigmatism in my dominant eye, so I haven't noticed many visual artifacts in the limited time I've spent with dots.

Maybe I'll just move it to a shotgun.

Have been very happy with my newer PA prism sights. My astigmatism is bad, t2/exps3/Huey whatever I tried big ol bloom of a dot. The etched reticles are ideal.

In the P-F basket of deplorables.

Nope, negative testing for 5 years in a row so far. It's just how my eyes are.

Young guy with astigmatism. I've always seen starburst patterns at night from lights, even as a child. From what I was told it just varies from person to person.
