Thread: Extended Thumb Safety S&W Shield 2.0

  1. #81

    Cool

Glad I found this thread online! I new to the forum and look forward to learning new things from all of you. My wife purchased a Shield Plus and has been having trouble disengaging the safety. Are these extended thumb safety available? Thanks in advance!

Are there prospects for slide RELEASE levers?
These little stamped tab slide stops are foreign to my 1911 habits.
Fortunately my Plastic M&P will self close.

Im sorry Jim there are no plans at this time for any other firearms related parts. Ive read online that if properly prepped JB weld is something that can be shaped. Ive also read about heat shrink. One guy actually bent the tab out a bit.
    Ill send you a PM.

S&W has a $50 rebate on Shield pistols and also has a thumb safety + optics ready Shield available.

I took my newly modded Shield+ to the local BUG match this month, and it was a night and day difference. The safety was not only usable, but as ergonomic as a 1911. Zero mechanical issues, zero pain points even when riding it with my thumb under recoil.

Thanks for the review! Feedback has been 100% positive so far. Thanks for all the expert input from forum members concerning design recommendations. It wouldnt have been as good as it is without you.

And like that I suddenly really want a Shield Plus. Good thing I’m poor.

But seriously, props to the developers for this right here specifically. You’re already surpassing the vast majority of designers in this area, since almost no one can make a thumb safety that’s 1911-ish.

Honestly the only downside I've found with the new safety is that none of my holsters (save for an old Raven VG2) will fit. I guess I need to figure out how to alter them with a heat gun or something.
