Adding clips to small knives and tools

My foray into sling/Fanny bags has me semi-obsessed with tiny tools and other items. Anyone else doing these kinds of mods?

Problem with tiny tools, typically no pocket clips.

So I started with my Leatherman Squirt and added a mini clip. remains to be seen if the epoxy alone will be sufficient to keep the clip attached.

Next up, the tiny Spyderco! In this case I have some 5mm chicago screws on order to add a mechanical fastener as well.

Little things you discover on projects like this...

    1) there's really only one scale you can attach something like this to.

on this side, one scale obviously won't work, but the other seems like it will work until you get closer and realize there's a tiny notch in that scale to open one of the tools.

This side clearly has one scale that won't work, which then leaves the only full-size scale to work with. There's still a toll behind there but it sticks out a little further and doesn't require a scale notch to access.

    2) (and I don't have pics of this yet) The scales actually dip down, meaning the flat-backed clip only makes contact at the two ends, and the middle kind of has to be bridged by a "puddle" of epoxy. which then made the whole thing a bit messier than I'd hoped.

    3) a Tool like the Micra might be easier/better for this kind of mod. The scales are flat and, as I understand it, the pivot screws can be removed with some heat and pliers. The Squirt would require drilling and replacing which I wasn't ready for just yet. Of course, the Micra also has scale cutouts on all four scales so... and I like the pliers on the Squirt.

    As it turns out, 5mm isn't really 3/16in (it's 4.7625).

This was something I knew, but wasn't really sure if it would matter. Gotta look for some 4mm or true 3/16in posts.

Also, the head on the threaded part of the Chicago screws I ordered it too large for where I had hoped it would fit, even after I'd pried the so something else to suss out.

it *would* fit through on this end, but that doesn't quite work for me as it places the clipped-on knife in an odd orientation.

    This thread is awesome.

Following with great interest since I have a Cold Steel Recon Micro that I’ve been considering adding a clip too.
