    10 Year Challenge

I’ve been seeing the “10 Year Challenge” all over social media, where people are posting pictures of themselves 10 years ago verses now. It got me thinking about where I was with firearms a decade ago compared with today.

10 years ago I was all about the 1911. The Dan Wesson Guardian in 9mm was my favorite gun (still is, really) and I bought a new Les Baer, which was my most expensive firearm purchase at the time. I was issued an HK USP .45.

10 years later, I only own one 1911, and almost exclusively carry and shoot Glocks. I’m also living the dot-life. Kind of depressing, really.

It was about 10 years ago I found PF. Still got the 92a1 I was using when I found this place too. It’s semi retired now, but I still got it.

Ten years ago I was still carrying my S&W Shorty Forty Five. It was about then that I was discovering that Smith's support of all of the 3rd Gens was fast disapearing, much to my disappointment.

I bought my first Glock in late '88 (a 19) and still was into them so I went back to them. 23, 27, and then finally landed on the 39. My fingers are just too short for a 21/30, no matter how hard I try wish it otherwise. And I've always been a .45 guy. I remember when the GAP was being developed but have no idea why I never tried it before. The 39 fits perfectly and massages my .45 bump just right.

    Same here.

Still going strong...in part thanks to your advice about sending it back to Smyrna for warranty work, as I recall. (Crack / chip at mag well a few years back.)
There's nothing civil about this war.

Good to hear that worked out Blues.

Mine was new in the box with a $10 discount. $239.95 The 23 I bought when they first came out I had to pay full retail for.

'Course out '88 date somewhat pre-dates the ten year mark. Can't speak for you but I'm getting to be an old man.

Ten years ago, my carry guns were a Gen 3 Glock 26 that I bought in 2009 and a Gen 3 Glock 19 that I bought in 2011. Now my carry guns are the same Glock 26 (often in the same holster I was using in 2009/2010), a Gen 5 Glock 19, or a Glock 43 depending on the occasion. My bedside pistol in 2012 was a Glock 17.4 and still is now, though it currently has a Surefire attached to it. I think I bought my S&W 432PD in 2011. I don't carry it much now that I have a G43.

I bought my first Glock, a 17.2, in the early 90s. By 2009 when I started shooting regularly and carrying, I'd figured out that it would be hard to beat a small Glock. That saved me a lot of time and money.

I'm still solidly a 1911 guy. No change since I bought my first pistol in the 90's......a 1911

This 642-2 has been my primary carry gun since I bought it new at the end of 2003/start of 2004.

In 2012, I think I had sold my CZ75B SA, but I might have still been running it as a competition gun. Regardless, my carry pistol then was a 3913. Name: image.jpg

I still carry the same 642, but my primary semiauto carry gun is now a G26. Name: image.jpg

Days that I carry something besides one or the other or both of those two are very, very rare. I did just buy a 442-1, so if I’m wise, the new no-lock gun will take over as the carry gun and the 642 will become a trainer/spare.

    That hasn’t happened yet, though.

Wow, that’s almost a copy of me. I too owned several 1911’s, and had just purchased a Baer. Now I’m down to one 1911, and have several Glocks. The Baer’s gone, and I don’t miss it. Kinda wish I’d kept my Dan Wesson CBOB though.

I was just telling someone I hadn’t shot a match in a couple years, and then I realized it’s been at least 10 years.

But with access to private property that lets me run drills I couldn’t on a “normal” range, I’d like to say I’m a much better shooter than I was 10 years ago. Or at least I’ve gotten better at gaming the drills. 😁

A decade ago I was carrying a Gen 3 Glock 19 in Afghanistan and a Gen 3 Glock 17 here at home.

Today I’m heavily invested in Gen 5 Glocks and a Staccato P. I thoroughly enjoy shooting the Gen 5s and the Staccato and appreciate the attributes of both platforms.
