In my case it is, although it could easily as happened behind the hip. In fact, I still have jackets that are worn out behind the hip where my rear sight contacted the inside of the jacket.

You can pretty much tell an appendix carry shooter by all the holes in the front of their shirts.

Thanks for those photos! The forward position really does streamline the back of the slide, which aside from clothing damage must also be beneficial for carry comfort. I think the beveled design on the rear of the 508T would be fully leveraged with forward mounting of the BUIS;

I have a 509t2 direct milled on a CZ P-07, with irons forward. I am using backup sights that are visible at the very bottom of the window. When the irons are aligned, POI is at the center in the optic. I wasn’t sure that was going to work until I hit an 8” plate at 20 yds 5 times in a row with the dot turned off.

I like this setup a lot for a few reasons: 1) better view through optic, 2) protection of optic at front, 3) no sharp rear sight to rip clothes or scratch my body, 4) less cutout needed for holsters, 5) on the P-07, less extreme milling at rear of slide, and more solid support for optic.

I got the P10C first so am more accustomed to the lower profile and less obstructed view of the RDS window that comes from mounting irons in front. Notice the green fiber optic on the front sight. Originally I had a red tube in there but my pea-brain needed something to differentiate between the two… On the RDO, its behind the optic. My initial thought when I got the RDO was the rear sight really distracts the eye from the dot. However when shooting at match speed the other weekend when target-focused I barely noticed the irons.

Fortunately, @GJM posted earlier than I am, and his post reminded me that the shirt I'm wearing has a nice hole in it at 4:00 from an iron mounted behind the red dot. Rather than express a preferred arrangement, I'll just say the correct answer is "Yes". Install the RDS and iron, however you like, verify alignment of both irons and dot, and then ignore the irons ever after . . . unless the dot fails.
