    $100-ish binoculars

There's some old threads on this, but nothing exactly in line or worth bumping.

there's my go to Wirecutter review that suggests the Carson VP at $140. Looks like a Nikon Prostaff model is also around $100?

    ETA:
just looking for something general-purpose to keep in the RV.

Kowa 6x30's are a great choice, I have three of them:

Edited to add: what I like about the Kowa's is that they are light, easy to hold and at 6x are easy to hold steady. They also are small enough for my kids to use, and the interpupilary distance can be adjusted closer than on other binoculars I've owned, which also makes them easier for kids to use.

I also own a few the Leupold Yosemite 6x30's and I think they probably are made by the same OEM that makes the Kowa 6x30's.

these seem to have an awfully similar form factor as well...

When I sold sporting goods - I must have sold about 1000 pairs of Leupold Yosemites in 6x30 - Because they were that good.

If the Kowas are comparable (and they look it) - I'd buy these and roll on*.

*I haven't tried the Kowas - but the Leupold Yosemite remains an excellent pair of binos today, except they're discontinued.

The only difference I've found between my Kowa's and my Leupold's is the exterior cladding on the Kowa's is a bit softer and less slippery, and the adjustment knob is not serrated like the Leupold knob. Optically they are, to my eyes, basically the same.

Wife and I are bird watchers. We put good use to Vortex Solo monoculars. She's got an 8x36, and I use the 10x36.

Vortex Optics Solo Monocular 10x36 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00161ZI4A...SV4KW064D7N9RA

Light, small form factor, large clip, lifetime warranty and does just what we need.

We've killed a number of binos, and often found they would left at home due to the bulk.

How do you like the 10x36? I have an 8x25 I use for the same purpose and would like more magnification but haven't pulled the trigger because I don't know how easy it is to keep steady.

I have the 10x32 version of these Vortex Diamondbacks and like them quite well:

Best binos I have that were in the hundred dollar range are Leupold BX-1 Yosemite 8x30 that Midway had on sale back in the day. Looks like they were discontinued and the new models are closer to two bills and up.

I have the 10x42 version of these. I’ve been using them for close to 2 years now for hunting. I’m really happy with them and you can’t beat the warranty.
