It’s been a few years, but I guess it really depends on the municipality involved. When I lived there, I did mine through the Lacey Police Department (Thurston County) and they had me in and out for fingerprints in no time. I don’t think I even needed an appointment. Still had to wait around 60 days for it to get it, but applying for it was easy.

Nosing around on the Spokane County Sheriff's office website, that is lame that it looks like it redirects all CPL's to the City. They must have some interlocal that the City handles everyone's CPL's or something. Someone needs to give Ozzie an earful on that. That is a great way to build a bottleneck, especially if the City is/was being hyper cautious about fingerprinting during COVID.

(I know you know this, but for people who don't, typically Washington residents can get a permit from either the City PD that they live in or the County they live in: https://www.dol.wa.gov/business/fire...oncealreq.html).

Some of the smaller towns defer to a regional authority, but in King County, it's the town where you live.

In at least part of Pierce County, it's done by a third party called "South Sound 911", in downtown Tacoma.

Geeze, can you get an armed escort just to get your permit?

Here is a screenshot from that DOL site I linked, just to show how it is supposed to work, in theory, but perhaps not in practice... :

I live in SE Wash, and I can go to either the town I live in or the Sheriff's office. They are both close.

It is interesting to look at different PD and Sheriff's office websites to see what they say.

Edited to add: I looked at the South Sound 911 website. That is probably the product of an interlocal agreement, too, like Spokane's arrangement. Probably nothing inherently wrong with it, but it seems like a lousy political and policy choice to bottleneck applications like that. Probably less pushback in Pierce County, but I'm sort of surprised that the Spokane Sheriff did that.

I guess it's time to donate some more money to SAF. I'm also going to renew my NRA membership in a few weeks. I hate WLP but in light of our plight I'm not sure there's much else anyone can do except vote out the scum that passed SB 5078.

Where did I get the idea that Sheriff was an elected position?

It used to be, but it changed a couple years ago when the voters of King County (read Seattle) gave up that power a few elections ago.

And the three of them really aren’t qualified.

Liquor control board person, a dude from Killeen Texas and a Major from Atlanta.

Look out King County, you thought Mitzi Johanknecht was a shit show……hang on
