Small portable radios, AM FM Shortwave.

I had a small handheld portable radio that got AM/FM and the international shortwave frequencies. Over many years, it finally gave up the ghost from riding around in the car. I've looked around and see ones which are larger than this one. The one I had was about the size of an Iphone but a touch thicker. Ran on a couple of AA batteries. It had an extendable antenna and if things were right, you could listen to various places around the world.

    Anybody have a suggestion? Thanks.

Years back had a Sangean similar to what you are describing that worked fantastic. Unfortunately a quick search online turned up zilch just now. Had a slightly larger Grundig that used 4xAA batteries was okay but that little Sangean was way better.

this is close to the old Sangean but never used this model.

Below is a link to a review of the County Comm GP-7, the updated version of the GP-5. The reviewer references a previous video on the GP-5 but I have not watched that one.

countycomm GP-5 in my overseas travel bag for about 5 years I think, it has held up well and seems to work very well although there is a dearth of broadcasts on the SW channels even compared to 20 years ago

Turn of the century I bought a Sangean unit, it it worked very well, but the countycomm unit is much smaller and lighter and seems to pick up a few of the SW bands stronger

Casual listener, not an amateur radio operator

    I was curious about this.

I always find radio technology interesting but have never invested the energy into HAM, for example, because I'm not really interested in talking to random people around the world.

What do you find worthwhile in terms of SW radio broadcasts? Is there good world news from Deutche Welle or what kind of stuff do you find there?
This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

Useful to hear broadcasts from other small zombie survivor outposts after the apocalypse. I just think it's fun to surf around and have something with more options if things do go to hell. I have stuff like that.
