I used to have some and then it wasn't cool to have them anymore (kind of like a SMF vest). But, I just put a new optic setup on my main go-to SBR/carbine and would like to have some basic protection for $2,700 worth of optics and mount bumping around in and out of a vehicle. I don't want/need to spend $200 on something gucci, but also don't really want UTG level either. Something basic, but decent quality. I looked for Eagle (was in the cobwebs of my memory) but it looks like they don't make them anymore.
Eagle is no longer the eagle you recall - they exist but mostly do institutional sales. the people from Eagle now run FirstSpear. Nice stuff but their Rifle cases start around $300...

I've had good luck with Bulldog products in the "budget" price range. $88-

    and Assault Systems - $175

If you want Gucci - The Hodge / mayflower case is nice. $219.

Here are some more inexpensive deals on the same case (black only)

I have several Boyt shotgun cases and have been well pleased. However, I believe they are no longer made in the USA as they once were.

Someone mentioned Bulldog cases. IMO they are the best of the budget bags. I generally take several rifles to the range and have one of their discreet bags and one of their shaped bags with mag pouches on the outside, they've been in and out of the truck a lot and have held up well.

Adding nothing to the conversation since 2015....

I have the square Bulldog case Dan mentions. It's been great as a budget case. Had it for the last ~5-6 years. Held up pretty well, has backpack straps. At the time I think it was $30

I have the Specialist 30" backpack, which I use for an AR pistol. It is lockable with a luggage lock through the zippers, which is important to me. It is generally a well-made case which carries well as a backpack or using the multiple well-placed handles. While it is not immediately identifiable as a gun case (I use mine for an AR pistol), anything that large is going to get some attention. I doubt I am fooling anyone who knows me even somewhat well. Having said that, this case is by far the best case I have found, at least for my needs.

I have a few of these and they work well:

When I lived in a large apartment building, and would have to share an elevator to get to the parking garage, having a bag that was discreet enough to share an elevator with a nosy housewife was a priority.

Thing was, none were really that discreet - what does one actually carry in a 36" nylon bag? And the musical instrument ploy breaks down if you bump into someone who plays music.

So, I just took to taking a regular rifle case, and then 'brown paper bagging it' in a carboard box with a little tape and a dummy shipping label.

For transporting my pistol range bags, I'd just toss them in a big blue Ikea bag with a sweatshirt tossed on top:

I’ve been a fan of Sneaky Bags for awhile. Based on all of the “sold out” not sure if they are still a thing?
    https://sneakybags.com/

IIRC vertex or 5.11 or someone was also making a bag with the rounded ends? That profile is a lot of what I like about the Sneaky I have.
Does the above offend? If you have paid to be here, you can click here to put it in context.

Sadly, you can go to a bunch of different sources and they sell the same bag made in the same factory in China. Just different labels and colors and prices. Blackhawk, Savior, Evike, etc. Some of it is pretty good, some of it is okay and some is garbage. Even companies we used to know and trust have to buy the same crap just to be competitive. I like to avoid buying that stuff when I can, not that doing so is easy.

For about $100 you can buy this bag, made in the USA by a small outfit. Lifetime guarantee, several colors, several sizes, etc. You can even pay extra and get the case in a southwest tapestry pattern, if that appeals.Nice range bags, too.

They also have a less-expensive basic case.

I have absolutely no connection to the company or product.

The whole container price fiasco has really jacked up the cost of bulky imported goods. Those foreign rifle cases that sold for $30-50 are now $80-100. This is a great time to buy American with no pain to your wallet.

On the topic of discreet bags: the most clever solution I've seen is using a soft cooler bag in place of the typical boxy range bag. I have a friend who used to use something like this:
    https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-16-Ca...496&psc=1&th=1

It was big enough for the typical ear/eye pro, pistol, mags, and ammo required for an indoor range session. It also doesn't get a second look in hotels, elevators, public transit, etc.
