JCN wants a six shot pocket revolver

I used to pocket revolver a 1” NAA Pug but these days have been carrying a 340PD in an Aholster on those days I just want to toss something into a pocket and go.

Lately with the @Clusterfrack mouse gun threads and @jetfire loving his LCR327/32 I kind of wondered about what options I had and could make work.

So I want a six shot pocket revolver.

The current king of the hill is the 5 shot PD which is so light and comfortable to pocket.

Today I picked up a Taurus 856UL on transfer.

A Taurus?!!!!’ Really? My friends at the LGS were perplexed.

But I kind of love my Taurus 380 revolver. With a little internal work and some springs by me, it’s one of my favorite revolvers. It’s currently back at Taurus getting a new cylinder because I got a little aggressive throating it.

Here are some baseline comparative pictures of some of my other options:

The 6 shot 856 is lighter than the 5 shot 9mm LCR

Almost exactly the same weight as the 6 shot 22WMR LCR

Obviously not a serious contender but just highlighting how technology has improved in the past 70 years haha.

If the ass end wasn’t so heavy and large, this would be awesome.

    @TheNewbie

I’ll get springs changed and see what it’s like after cleaning up the inside.

    Awesome, can’t wait.

The 856 and LCR don’t look all that different size wise. The cylinder will be thicker, but otherwise it doesn’t seem drastically different from the posted pics.

    First impressions:

    1. It feels heavy. I know it’s not but I think the heavy cylinder makes it feel nose heavy and not well balanced. This might not matter one bit during shooting.

    2. Trigger is heavy and unremarkable. It’s not smooth… yet. After a slick up my M380 is as smooth as anything else I own. So I’m optimistic of how it’ll be with a little work. Trigger weight is over 12 pounds and off the scale of my digital Lyman.

It would fit in an Aholster if I warm up the muzzle end of the holster to fit it.

My performance goal is to do Gabe White light pin standards with the gun.

I too carry a 340PD due to its light weight and it’s easy to conceal in my front right pocket. Hope you find your 6-shot revolver. Sounds like you’re well on your way to that end. Kinda knocking around a New York reload in my left front pocket. Another 340PD. Just thinking out loud at the moment.

We all need the 432 to return to production!

To add to the reference points, my 351c weighs exactly 12 oz with hogue rubber bantam grips and 7 gold dots.

    Internals

The Taurus works essentially like a J-frame internally.

Polished all mating surfaces. Stoned the hammer spring strut. Went through all channels and springs to smooth them out.

Okay. I like it. Very smooth and functional now. Very decent.

LCR and Korth triggers are better but not in a way that probably matters any for the intended purpose.

Front sight is pinned and I have an Ameriglo orange sight on the way.

After that I’ll dry fire a little and then take it out for some comparative chrono and shootability compared to an MP340 which should be closer in weight.
