I picked one of these up recently to play with. So far I am kind of ambiguous about it.
Size is more or less Streamlight TLR-1 but it is just different enough to be incompatible with the Blackhawk duty holster for the Glock/TLR. It is also a little tight in a Raven Perun. It does seem to fit okay in my US Duty Gear 6280 clone.
Outside of holster fit, here are my thoughts:
CONS
Not dual fuel. The light won't work with 16340 batteries. It does work with CR123s as well as the lifepo4 Surefire rechargeable. So sort of dual fuel but not really.
No pressure switch option. Just toggle switch for now. Will Nightstick make a pressure switch for pistols? If not, they should. Make it somewhere in between Surefire and Streamlight in thickness so as to work better with various holsters.
Cross bolt/clamp kind of small. Not sure what coin I'm supposed to use to attach the light to the gun. A dime? Why not a penny or a nickel? Or a Phillips screw to stay consistent with the battery compartment.
Phillips screwdriver needed to open the battery compartment? I guess this pretty much guarantees you better have a Leatherman tool handy at all times.
Switches. The switches are left and right of the trigger guard. One quick press down for constant on. One long press and release for momentary. Not necessarily a bad thing in operation but the switches themselves feel fairly flimsy. Will they hold up over time?
Rear battery cap. Aside from the small rail coin slot and the Phillips screw to open the battery compartment the light must be removed to change batteries. Nightstick needs to make something about this same size with a front load battery. Same thing goes for Surefire and Streamlight. Streamlight has the TLR9 but that only looks like it will work on an old AMT Long Slide or a Glock 34....
PROS
Bright. Claimed to be 1200 lumen and it is brighten than some other lights. Also smaller than the Modlite. No real comment yet on how well the light throws.
Metal rail interface. The little insert in the top of the light is metal. Three come in the package and allow the light to be adjusted fore and aft slightly depending on user preference.
Switch operation. One quick press turns the light on in constant mode. A press and hold sets it in momentary. Press and hold both right and left buttons for 3 or 4 seconds deactivates the light until both buttons and pressed and held. Seems pretty intuitive with a little use.
Biggest concern so far is holster fitment. With the TLR-1 and X300 being the prominent lights in the market I think they should have chosen one or the other to base this light off of.
Anyway, just a few random thoughts. Anyone else messed around with one of these?
Happy Friday!
