Anything that feels good in your shoulder and provides a solid cheek weld will work.

I have a lower setup with a match trigger and a Magpul PRS stock. It is very solid but is also heavy, and rarely gets used.

The Magpul MOE carbine stock is solid and lightweight.

The newer MOE SL stock is nice. It's a good mix of simple like the MOE carbine but more rigid.

Most of the time I run a Magpul MOE carbine stock and standard buffers with midlength gas systems. I do have a Magpul MOE SL carbine stock on my SR15 and I like it.

What are the monopod on rear of stock options good for? Is it just for competition? Would a mil dm use one?

I hate them. No substitute for a good rear bag.

I agree 100%. Monopods were a thing about 10-15 years ago until people found out how useless they were.

I like the b5 sopmod and Magpul SL.

The Magpul SL-S is nicely designed minus the sling swivels which gets my slings caught in odd ways.

The Magpul PRS is overly heavy but very sturdy and adjustable.

The Luth AR precision stock is nice and light but the cheek piece is a weakness.

Magpul MOE rifle stock is actually really nice but one size fits all.

I have that on my other, much more accurate AR... It is rather nice. I like it more than the A2-style options out there which all either cost 2x as much as the magpul or felt either cheaply made.
