I read Rittenhouse’s breakdown on the stand as trying to get thru his account of what happened and being overcome with emotion And enormity of the whole situation which rendered him unable to speak despite his best effort to do so. This as opposed to simply being overcome with grief and breaking down into tears. Two different things. It looked to me like he was trying *not* to break down or cry on the stand.
I also thought his display of emotion was genuine, which makes me seeing the humor in the Shapiro jab that much worse. What's the term for feeding off other people's misery - disaster porn?
No, just the opposite. It’s a strong argument that anyone being in such a zone unnecessarily is a fool. It’s dimly an expanded version of the Stupid people, Stupid places, Stupid things principle.
But fools are still entitled to self defense. It is an argument for being armed if one needs to be there or is stupid enough to go unnecessarily.
Ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!
I think the more vocal people ("Kyle is a hero!" types) fall into this trap hard. Same with the whole LtCol Scheller, who all of his most vocal "supporters" have already forgotten about. If LtCol Scheller had come out against the other tribe, the same people would be calling for his execution on grounds of treason. People are just looking for something to get angry and righteous about.
Same "virtue signaling" as the left, just different heros and hills to die on (well, as long as other people do the "dying" for them, that is).
"Are you ready? Okay. Let's roll."- Last words of Todd Beamer
For instance, if Grosscruz had shot Rittenhouse- would the same people defend the action, or would they call for his conviction on tribal grounds?
