Sidebar to the topic: I received a push email from change.org yesterday, asking for signatures on a petition to remove real guns from Hollywood productions based on this event.
Mind boggling when one considers . . . total TV/cinema entertainment - how many hundreds of thousands of times does an actor get handed a gun of some sort for a scene. And there's been ONE disaster in quite a few years. Holy crap.

That whole article is worth a quick perusal for context, IMO.

The giant question: where did the goddam live rounds come from. That is a big answer in the making.

As an aside, this whole idea of crew members going out to do target shooting after hours AND having to either commute an hour each way to the ‘burque or sleep in their cars after 13-15 hour days doesn’t really make sense either.

We are going to need more dark popcorn while this continues to develop.

From what I've heard, film sets involve long hours of doing nothing but waiting as this or that department gets things set up.

So, crew members who aren't doing anything but waiting would probably welcome a chance to do some fun plinking instead.

And this is pure suspicion at this point, but it may come out that the PropThot may have even suggested it as a way to be cool and fit in with the crew.

And that ladies and gentleman is the internet wrapped for today. No more entries until tomorrow at the earliest. PropThot has won it.

Importantly, since we're wrapped for today, don't go load live rounds into your prop gun. Lest you become the newest PropTwat.

Pretty sure PropTwat was the initial name for the FleshLight.

Aside from the fact that she is seemingly one of the responsible parties in this boondoggle, do you think there might be the slightest chance that dad didn't give her the opportunity?

A mistaken assumption that some people seem to have made is assume that because Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is the daughter of a famous firearms person/experienced armorer she grew up with a strong interest in firearms and spent a significant amount of time with her father learning and apprenticing. We've read numerous accounts of her lack of experience and lack of competence on another film set, people walking off this film set because of problems, etc. I've seen numerous pictures of her with questionable gun handling and some downright stupidity. Here's one that I came across with her coaching someone:

She has released a statement through her lawyers that appeared in variety magazine: https://variety.com/2021/film/news/h...nt-1235100531/

"First Hannah would like to extend her deepest and most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Halyna. She was an inspirational woman in film who Hannah looked up to. She also offers her thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery to Joel. Hannah is devastated and completely beside herself over the events that have transpired.

She would like to address some untruths that have been told to the media, which have falsely portrayed her and slandered her. Safety is Hannah’s number one priority on set. Ultimately this set would never have been compromised if live ammo were not introduced. Hannah has no idea where the live rounds came from. Hannah and the prop master gained control over the guns and she never witnessed anyone shoot live rounds with these guns and nor would she permit that. They were locked up every night and at lunch and there’s no way a single one of them was unaccounted for or being shot by crew members. Hannah still, to this day, has never had an accidental discharge. The first one on this set was the prop master and the second was a stunt man after Hannah informed him his gun was hot with blanks.

Hannah was hired on two positions on this film, which made it extremely difficult to focus on her job as an armorer. She fought for training, days to maintain weapons, and proper time to prepare for gunfire but ultimately was overruled by production and her department. The whole production set became unsafe due to various factors, including lack of safety meetings. This was not the fault of Hannah.

Hannah and her legal team will address more of these rumors and the whole incident in an upcoming statement next week."

It's not an unreasonable assumption. Why else would they give that job to a 24 year old?
