OSD is trying very hard to sell LAV's problem as everyone's problem, and if one were to read everything written in rebuttal here after each posting, I think you'd find that this isn't a problem for anyone not actively colluding with a foreign power as relates to sanctions.

By emphasizing "ATF approved them," the writer is implying that ATF knew what was going on, and then changed their minds.

This is basically exactly what happened.

I work with an AUSA that was formerly general counsel for ATF in ATF HQ. He said they knew exactly what was going on with the demo letters, but were told to ignore it and move on. That changed under the current administration.

The article shows further proof that our society has moved away from objectivity and into a partisan subjectivity. Doc Robert's "Facts matter...Feelings Can Lie" comes to mind here, because there's a sad tendency to evaluate facts based on feelings- and dismiss any inconvenient facts if they don't match the partisan worldview.

I understand, but every agency lets something slide...until they don't.

I doubt this was the only clarification letter since 1986, but anyone who wants to push the edge of the envelope has now been warned.
