    Safes - 2021 edition

Right now I am using two mid sized safes for my long guns/pistols. A liberty Centurion manual and a Costco special (from a decade+ back) with electronic lock.
As part of the move, I am contemplating getting a new safe. The prices appear to be anywhere from 500 to 1500. However, having looked through a number of you tube videos and other reading, it seems most "safes" in this price range aren't that "safe" from direct attack and are actually rated as RSC (Residential Security Cabinets).
It makes me wonder if spending 1500+ makes sense vs buying a cheaper 500-600 safe.
Any pros/cons of having one large safe (30-47 cubic ft) vs 2 smaller (18-22 cubic ft) safes?

Did you read the existing safe threads we have, Andy? Nothing has really changed since then.

    Container vs Safe

    https://gunsafereviewsguy.com/articles/

Just a suggestion, https://gunsafereviewsguy.com/articles/, make some time and read all of his articles on residential security containers vs real safes. After watching two guys open a Liberty fat boy safe (which I have) in 42 seconds with just two small pry bars, eye opener... The Liberty Fat Boy is now just a container from kids with no firearms inside. As far as fire protection which is my greatest concern in the Sierra, fires burn at 1850 degrees which will melt the glass in the scopes and roast wood. I’ve witnessed the results of five decades of wild land fires, homes. shops and common gun safes (residential security containers), kiss em good bye. What does work against fire (1850F for two hrs) and theft is a true safe. I’ve had good luck finding used U.L. rated TL-15 and TL-30 safes which you can trust, Underwriters Laboratory tested and an insurance company will cover the contents to a certain amount. I’ve looked at a 100K coin collection that was turned into a pile of melted gold and silver, face value only now. It was in a common high end $5,000 safe that the sheetrock idea failed to protect. He learned a hard lesson. Latest safe purchased for a friend was a used working Amsec TL30 for $650. Check around craigslist and safe stores for a used working safe.

Piling in on this, I’m about ready to “pull the trigger” on a Zanotti Armor safe. Interested in what people think and hearing about other possible options. I’ve already read the old threads.

Buy the cheaper safe and then use the money to tie the safe into the structure in a meaningful way.

I'm not an experienced safe buyer, but one tip I've got is find a local place and compare prices to online. I paid $500 less for this safe than the online price, delivered and installed, from a local shop.

Cannot recommend these folks strongly enough! Supremely knowledgeable and helpful. They also have videos on YT that make the decision easier. And if you buy from them, they hire EMT's or FF's with clean criminal background checks. They also deliver in unmarked trucks so the whole neighborhood doesn't know you bought a safe.

I am no authority on safes. That being said, I found this podcast gave me some things to think about. Granted, the guy is talking about his own stuff.
