I picked my second Gen 5 23 MOS for my red dot field pistol experiment today. The first has a 509T and this one was to get a P1 Acro on a TD plate. Pulled the TD plate and the Acro off a G19, and got things organized on the new 23.
Used our Wheeler laser sight in thingee, and the zero looked spot on from its previous installation on the G19. Next, I grabbed the Safariland Sig 320 RDS holster that I have been using with my G23/509T. I held the holster in my hand and gently inserted the 23/Acro to check fit and heard this terrible grinding noise. This is what I found.
Looking inside the holster, it was clear that the front lens of the Acro which protrudes slightly more forward than the 509T contacted the plastic that forms the front sight channel.
I texted Wayne and within 60 seconds he had me set up with a RMA to Aimpoint. We then discussed me shooting it a while broken, since the dot is contained internally, and I broke the sacrificial front lens. I checked zero with the Wheeler, and as you would expect this didn't effect zero. The shattered glass does muck up the BUIS, but this is fine for testing. I will probably put the broken Acro on a G17, since I don't have much .40 ammo. It is amazing the things that happen when you least expect them.
