I have had much better results from LE13300 than any of the Versa-Tite loads. The Hornady loads seem to hang in there out to about 15-20 yards, but beyond that LE13300 and even LE13200 and some “standard” buck loads with good choke selection will beat the Hornady loads on pattern performance. At least in my experience with a handful of shotguns, mostly Mossbergs.

I still want the LE133 but I have been looking for this stuff for probably about a year now. I have not seen it in stock 1 time. I guess the hornady will have to do for now, that seems to be the only other "good" option...

True story. Sometimes the available “second best” is better than the unavailable “best”.

In that case, here is a link to some Hornady Critical Defense buckshot. It is the full power version, so it thumps pretty good. Couldn’t find any of the American Gunner (low recoil) version.

If you are LE, you can buy Hornady TAP from these guys: https://miwallcorp.com/

If you have a gun that can run screw in chokes, Remington’s 8 pellet managed recoil buckshot does okay too. I get good results with an IC choke. It is available from here: https://www.natchezss.com/remington-...uck-5-box.html

I should have clarified the pic I posted was the TAP rounds. Sorry for any confusion.

While we found the Hornady stuff to be better than most other "choked" shotgun rounds, it wasn't even close to Flite Control in performance past 15 yards in our shotguns (18" Remington 870s and old 18" Beretta 1201's) The Flite Control was keeping 7-8 out of 9 pellets on a target at 50 yards....Hornady maybe 2 pellets. Inside 15 yards...not much difference. And the price was significantly higher. Hard nope for us.

All that said....it is an excellent defensive shotgun round. Wouldn't hesitate to use it. And if it's all you can find....it's a sellers market for pricing.

It wasn't any better than normal buck loads out of my 3 different guns. The Federal uses copper plated shot and a shot buffer. The Hornady uses neither. Out of my three the 590A1 trounced the others as far as patterning goes by a good amount. Wish I had that one back. The Hornady load in the Benelli with screw in chokes acted like any other buck load no matter the choke. These loads will theoretically perform best with a cylinder bore according to Federal and Federal's actually seems to do just that. The Hornady was actually tightest with a full choke tube installed. Every barrel has its own tastes. Try them both in yours.
