That's what's great about that Spartan load of #1 (that's SA2000 - if anyone finds some for sale, I need all of it you can buy). It's 9-pellets (I misremembered when I said 8-pellets) of #1 or about .84oz shot load at 1200fps that's about 1/3rd of an ounce lighter than 9-pellet 00. That makes it a true "20-gauge load" of buck.

At least there is a good slug load. Brennekke THD, 308gr (.70 oz) @ 1200fps.
I literally had a dream last night that I SBSed one of my 20ga 870s and it was good.

This is how LE13200 patterns out of my cylinder bore P3000 at 15 and 25 yards.

Thanks to this forum, I think this thread even (it’s been a few days), I scored a number of boxes of the Hornady 8 pellet #86240 to see if it doesn’t perform better. They also had some Federal PD132NRA. LR personal defense 9 pellet. I only bought ten rounds of that stuff.

I've ordered from bone frog a couple times with no issues

I haven't seen any buckshot, including Federal FC that will consistently keep all the pellets on a torso beyond 20-25 yards out of a standard cylinder bore 870/590/1301.

That is interesting. Like nothing will stay in the -1/C zone at like 30-ish yards?

    Affirmative.

A 1/C zone is 12” and 20-25 is where you start getting that 9th pellet flyer outside of that 12” zone.

The last 8 pellet FC I got was very inconsistent.

I haven't shot a lot of it, but from my 870 with factory 18-1/2" cylinder bore barrel, the eight-pellet version will hold the A zone of a USPSA target at 25 yards. I'm pretty sure my 590A1 does too, but it's been a while since I've shot it. Maybe I just got a good lot?

At that range, it's very individualistic. I've seen a few that will, with the right load (generally LE13300 but sometimes even LE13200), but it's hardly assured on a general scale.
