    Light for a Mossberg 500

Does anyone have a solution for mounting a Surefire Scout light to a Mossberg 500 without an extended magazine tube? This isn't my exact model, but it is close enough to give you an idea: https://www.sportsmansguide.com/prod...unds?a=1795623

Anyway, I installed a Magpul stock and forend, but mounting directly to the forend is not exactly confidence inspiring (see about halfway through this post https://swiftsilentdeadly.com/though...shotgun-setup/), given that the forend is plastic, and it is going to be under a lot of stress. If I did, I would probably buy a mount from Magpul, but I'm not keen on it.

I've looked at GG&G (https://www.gggaz.com/mossberg-500-f...ght-mount.html), but I'm not sure what to think of the design and what 12-gauge recoil will do to it.

I've looked at Nordic Components as well (https://nordiccomp.com/categories/st...nny-rail-12ga/) but I don't know if I have enough room to accommodate the clamp.

Does anyone have experience or suggestions?

The GGG and magpul mounts are both fine, though depending on the age of the 500, the newer Magpul won’t fit without a few extra parts. I have used both with no issues.

Avoid running a clamp mount on a pump unless it’s on an extension which blocks it from coming rearward and impeding the use of the pump.

My $0.02 is that the material of the Magpul forend is not likely to be an issue any more than the other components involved in putting a weaponlight on that Mossy will be. Scout lights and their mounts are often a bit more clumsy/snaggy on a shotgun than, say, a 300X or TLR-1 on a short section of simple pic rail, but not spectacularly so. For what Magpul charges per forend, I could go through a couple of them due to my own clumsiness and not feel put upon.

As for forend mounting of the light, based on my own search for the "perfect" light setup on an 870, I would not have a light mounted anywhere else on a pump-action shotgun, but YMMV. That being said, there are negatives to all of the options (including Surefire or Streamlight integral setups), and if I had had the capability of making videos of me having fun trying to put a light on a shotgun, they would show stripped mag tube threads (an 870 fix you don't want), bent sheet metal (money down the tube), clamps that slip without practically making them permanent fixtures, etc, etc.

My gut tells me that the best weaponlight mounting aid on a pump gun is to trade said pump gun for a semiauto, but the Magpul forend and a K.I.S.S. mount are perfectly acceptable.

I've tried a lot of different methods.

The surefire forend is the only one I'll entertain anymore.

Thanks for the feedback. Which light do you have?

That is a very good point, but it also puts me down another rabbit hole, and I already have the Mossberg.

I hear ya. I have an 870P that works wonderfully and is a known quantity, so I really can't justify going out and "investing" in a 1301 I will hardly ever be using.

By having a light positioned at 3:00 as far up on the Magpul MOE forend as I can, a right-hander like myself gets the white front bead lit up nicely without a lot of glare off the barrel/mag tube. It sort of surprised me how well that part of it worked out.
