    Week 38: FTS

Please read the rules before participating in this thread.

    Week 38: FTS
results may be posted until 11:59pm EDT on Monday 6-August-2012.

    Range: 5 to 25 yds
Target: 2x4” horizontal box placed 5-6” above a 5” circle. (When printed out on legal size paper, this TARGET works)
    Start position: concealed
Rounds fired: 7 to 35 shots

Start 5 yards from the target. On the buzzer, draw and fire five rounds to the circle, then 2 rounds to the rectangular “credit card” on top. Record the time and the number of hits obtained.

Add 5 yds to the distance from the target and repeat the drill until either both head shots are missed or the drill is successfully completed at 25 yards.

Please report the following when responding to this thread:
    • Start position (pistol, holster type, concealment)
    • For each distance, report the time to fire all seven shots and the number of hits to the circle and box.

Training with firearms is an inherently dangerous activity. Be sure to follow all safety protocols when using firearms or practicing these drills. These drills are provided for information purposes only. Use at your own risk.

    Glock 19 (3rd Gen)
    Raven Phantom OWB
    5.11 Vest

    Distance / time / body / head

    5 yd / 6.80 / 5 / 2
    10 yd / 10.57 / 3 / 1
    15 yd / 14.35 / 4 / 1
    20 yd / 18.16 / 5 / 2
    25 yd / 19.63 / 3 / 0

I shot this at pistol league with OrigamiAK running the clock. This was my first time using the raven holster and the first time live fire wearing the vest. It felt a million degrees on the deck that night and I remember beads of sweat dripping down my glasses while I was shooting each string.

We shot this as a mini competition. I was the only one in league that night that made it to 25 yards. (which means I ran out of ammo early that night and needed a whole extra box!)

This drill helped me prepare for my GSSF cram session I'm working on before Sunday.

That's some excellent marksmanship Ryan. I'd be pretty happy to make it out to 20 yards with both head shots in. Yikes, I might not...

Trying to shoot it later today.

    Gen3 G34 w/Defoor sights, concealed in a Keeper under a polo shirt.

    Distance/Time/5" Circle Hits/2x4 Box Hits:

    5yds/3.81/5/2
    10 yds/6.05/4/1
    15 yds/6.95/4/1
    20 yds/7.47/1/1
    25 yds/10.61/2/1

The Bad: pulled 10 and 15 yd credit card shots a hair low, got wild on the body shots at 20 and 25yds.

    The Good: completed the drill.

G17 w/RMR06 carried AIWB in a Fricke Seraphim from under a Patagonia shirt.

Started the day passing all three Defoor drills. Then ran the DOW #38 twice, as noted below:

    5 yds: 3.86s--3 body, 2 head
    10 yds: 5.94s--5 body, 1 head
    15 yds: 8.18s--5 body, 1 head
    20 yds: 9.02s--5 body, 1 head
    25 yds: 9.73s--5 body, 1 head

    5 yds: 3.00s--5 body, 2 head
    10 yds: 4.76s--4 body, 1 head
    15 yds: 6.05s--5 body, 2 head
    20 yds: 9.68s--5 body, 1 head
    25 yds: 9.58s--5 body, 1 head

The DP folks recently asked the FOLLOWING: "Irregardless of time, if someone set a target out at 50 yards, and told you to shoot, say 10 alphas on that target, could you do it? With how many shots?"

So I tried this 50 yd challenge--10 shots/10 A-zone hits.....of course in all honesty shooting an RDS equipped G17 helped.

    5yds 5.73 5/2
    10yds 7.75 5/2
    15yds 9.79 5/1
    20yds 11.74 3/1
    25yds 13.46 4/1

Man I had a hard time on the last two, I could hardly see the box at 20 and 25 yards.

Wow Doc that is some impressive shooting.

Tough drill. I used the target in the link and the lines were fine enough that I couldn't even see them at 15 yards, had to aim for the previous hits.

M&P9 in Blade-Tech IDPA rig under a vest.
    5yards: 8.27 s 4 and 2
    10 yards: 11.63 s 5 and 2
    15 yards: 13.06 s 5 and 1
    20 yards: 17.42 s 4 and 0

While I firmly consider myself merely a mediocre shooter, it was nice to finally have a couple of good practice sessions where everything came together. Unfortunately, I just dislocated a finger on my left hand, so things are unfortunately going to slow up for a bit.

Very sorry to hear that, Doc. Hope it doesn't mess up work too much!
