Othais and the folks over at C&Rsenal have produced a fantastic “revolver 101” that breaks down the mechanics of how revolver “clockwork” actually works. Yeah it’s 2 hours long. It took me three nights watching in pieces to finish the video.
But, that’s because they show examples of many different variations of how those tiny parts interact when you pull the trigger to make a cylindrical magazine rotate and lock in line with a single barrel. Variations on loading, they’re covered. Same with different mechanism to have the hammer safely rebound and live contact primers in the cylinder. All demonstrated on a variety of antique revolvers with the side plates removed and lock work exposed. If you ran across a make of revolver you’ve never seen in your life you should be able to properly identify how and why all the lock work works if you’ve watched this and apply a little critical thought.
