I don't think the vast majority of the public has any idea how many times a street cop/ detective hears that line over the course of their career..

A buddy and I were just talking about this. We work with the ministry at his church that deals with security and protection. Selected people are armed and receive training. Those of us providing the training are well qualified to do so.

We notice guys carry the "micro compact" genre of gun while in church (G43/P365/G43x/shield) and show up to the range to train with G19x/P320/M&P 9mm sized guns.

The simplest of answers is a bigger gun is easier to shoot. So the shoot better with the bigger gun, ego's are satisfied and they move on carrying the smaller guns.

The simplest of solutions is to shoot the small guns more. Two of us have to have the "latest and greatest" off the shelf. We both jumped on the P365 when it first came out and now we have both switch back to the shield in the form of the Shield Plus. (And am I ever glad old holsters fit the Plus!!)

Seems to be a never ending topic with the same answers going back to carrying a S&W 60 and practicing with a S&W 64.......and most likely further back than this.

I found the backstrap to my laser grip a few days ago. If I can remember where I put the grip I’ll try taping it back together.

While I am comfortable with a tiny gun for my own personal security and “get away from the bad guy” low probability world. For certain if I was responsible for any sort of “run towards the sound of gunfire” security situation, I would absolutely carry the largest service pistol available. Minimum would be a G19 with some 17 round reloads. Perhaps that makes me a hypocrite but I am comfortable that there is a difference between these situations.

My pastor and I have had a few discussions concerning church security. His basic stance is that since the church is across the street from the City PD that's good enough. My basic stance is, I want no part of church security as an organized activity. I pointed out, the core problem with his outlook is that the cops aren't always at the cop house. Most of the time they're off doing other things. My pastor told me, "I know you and "X" carry guns during church. I told him that may be, and "X" is a good man. However, I've shot with "X" and if he's expecting him to make a shot with his little .380 key fob gun, from the choir loft across the sanctuary, well, faith is not a strategy. The church has a camera system and I gave the staff several suggestions about maximizing its use and quite frankly, just locking the doors during service. Given the numbers of weapons I know are present during any service, combined with the general mindset of the congregation, I have to be content sitting in the back at the end of a pew during service and keeping an eye out.

I'm not condemning the concept of dedicated church security, just sharing my personal experience.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......

My personal minimum is 10 rounds-10 rounds in a gun I can shoot well. I picked up a Shield Plus and I think I was able to attach a picture of the first target (kind of new to adding files etc). But I figure 10 rounds, at 10 yards this was pretty good.

The Shield and guns like the Glock 43X and 48 are a bit smaller than the G19 and pretty east to shoot. So for me, it seems to be a pretty good compromise-especially with the 13 round magazine.

I'm just glad we are seeing more and more people realizing we may end up being the one running to the problem. With the whole crop of new "micro compact' guns coming out, we definitely have several good options from which to choose from.

Reliability and being able to shoot it nearly as well as a Shadow2 are at the top of the list. When I carried a G19 and competed with a G34, the answers were the same.
Every time you say that I ask myself YTF I don’t have a P-07.

    They are good stuff.

Released at the right time, they might have been the kings of a TDA world.

As a big fan of tiny guns, church is not the place for them. I assume anything that happens there will be particularly challenging to deal with.

I do shoot a Sig P365 as well as a G19 or G26, so I would not consider any of those options to be suboptimal.

Sometimes I think we need an injection of reality. There are a lot of reasons to carry a gun. But, the one we never talk about, perhaps don't want to admit, is that we simply like guns. It's easy to convince ourselves that we need to go throughout our lives armed for a cornucopia of reasons. Yet, the reality is the statistical likelyhood of needing a gun is remote at best. It's like driving an exotic car as your daily driver. It won't get you there any better than your Honda Civic, but it makes you feel good on some level. If we're intellectually honest with ourselves, I think there's something to that with carrying a gun.

I carry a gun because of my personal experiences due to my career choices, but that experience makes me a societal outlier. However, even I realize there are times when it just isn't wise. When I first started the CSO gig we weren't allowed to bring personal weapons on sight. I chose to carry my old BUG in its ankle rig, mainly because I didn't care about it if it was stolen out of the car. Well, there were some problems with that. First, I've never liked leaving a gun in the car. Second, I had trouble keeping track of the thing. I'd become so used to wearing it over twenty five years that I'd often forget I had it on. Several times I'd be walking into the building and have to go back to the car because I'd forgotten to take it off. Finally, on one occasion halfway through the day, I was seated in a chair, looked down and realized I was still carrying it. I then decided to just quit carrying a gun to work. I decided the issues of the gun possibly being stolen and possibly losing my sweet retirement job outweighed the likelihood of needing a gun to and from work. If I worked in an NPE where getting caught with a gun was a cause for immediate termination, if not criminal charges, then the carry juice wouldn't be worth the consequential squeeze.

Happily, a couple of months ago policies were changed and now we can carry POWs on site and secure them there. If I'm honest I'll admit my current choice of EDC is more about the feels than the practicalities. I just like it. We need to weight the pluses and minuses in an objective and realistic light. In the end, it may not be worth carrying a hammer to hit that one in a million nail. This doesn't have much to do with tiny guns, but in true PF thread drift fashion, it might be worth discussing.

I had been looking for the right place to post this on PF:
