I try not to over complicate it. All guns, no matter how little or big, have a place.....you just have to know what that place is for you
You know where you live and the places you travel. Carry based on that.
I live in suburbia. Far removed from any real crime. There are no bad neighborhoods even vaguely close by. Still my daily was G19, now 19X. However, the other week I was helping a friend paint his roof. Black roof, 97° heat with the sun beating down on me for 5 hours. Even though he lives in a ok but not great neighborhood I chose a LCP in the pocket vs a 19X iwb holster. If not for that I would have had the Glock
When I have to go to something formal I grab the LCP.
For around my area I would probably swap the 19 for a 365XL but I can't find a good holster

While I do agree with your general outlook,
Let me suggest JM Custom Kydex, my XL's not a problem
on a roof, under a truck, running a chainsaw etc.
that may solve all but the formal and an enigma may take care of that...
YMMV but there may not be a real need for major compromise,
I work in a moderate crime area, but see people on the sidewalk,
swearing, having violent arguments... but they are the only one within 50',
I try to walk a quick mile or two before work, at 5am.. a guy say's hey , you
got a light, cigarette, time...bla, bla , bla...no, no no and dont break stride,
kids circle on bicycles, at 5am WTF is a 12 - 15 year old doing in the street then?
alot goes on that the average peep never hears about, shootings are going on at
2 -8 pm, not just 12-3am
I live in the woods on a dirt road, over the years people in such remote locations
within driving distance have had violent home invasions, been killed for sport then
there's the possibility of the hungry / rabid coyote or maybe even the escaped
Burmese mountain dog/ shepherd mix that guards the sheep a mile a way.
Just my opinion but, in any of the above situations, an LCP in your pocket is
probably better than a sharp stick but it's not a compromise I want to make
for a big problem at the wrong time which will hopefully never come.
Regarding LittleGun / BigGun, I think @John Hearne has the right of it: "It's not the odds, it's the stakes."
LittleGun is biased towards the odds. BigGun, towards the stakes.
