Damn. That sucks. Rest In Peace, Brother.

I spent a lot of time in Terre Haute growing up. My parents are from there. My grandparents are buried there. Spent hours and hours at the Honeycreek Square. I can still smell the distinct odor of the creosote from the railroad tie place.

And made a failed run for Mayor on a liberal and anti gun platform.

Shane Meehan, the accused gunman in the shooting of a #TerreHaute police officer, is a former employee of the federal prison in Terre Haute. He ran for mayor as an independent two years ago, finishing last in a four-way race with 1% of the vote,” reported journalist Eric Berman.

He ran on an anti gun violence platform.

A video story on Meehan’s candidacy for mayor said he had lived in Terre Haute his entire life. He retired from the Terre Haute federal penitentiary and was working for UPS in 2019.

Meehan said he wanted to show that a political outsider could win and said schools were one of the biggest challenges Terre Haute faced.

He said that gun violence in schools around the country was a key concern.

“I think a lot of it has to do with the kids and what happens at home and everything else going on around them. It causes a lot of pressure, and a lot of things are happening that shouldn’t be happening,” he said, suggesting that “talking to the kids” would be a solution.

Meehan also said he wanted to balance the budget. Meehan added, “Public safety is doing well right now.” He advocated for more diversity in Terre Haute.

The more “telling” part is the suspect initiating the attack by throwing a Molotov cocktail at the FBI RA building before anyone was outside.

According to court documents, Shane Meehan, 44, drove his pickup truck to the gate of the FBI Resident Agency building. Meehan exited his truck and threw a Molotov Cocktail toward the building. Detective Ferency walked out of the building shortly after Meehan threw the incendiary device and was confronted by Meehan who was holding a firearm. Meehan raised the firearm and shot Detective Ferency. Detective Ferency was able to return fire to defend himself but later died.

Shortly thereafter, an FBI Special Agent ran out of the building and engaged Meehan in a gun battle. Despite being shot twice, Meehan got into his truck and fled the scene. Meehan was located at the Vigo County Regional Hospital where he was treated for his gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered from Meehan’s pickup truck along with three Molotov Cocktails and additional ammunition.

Looks like a suspect in custody on the Chicago PD/ATF shooting as well. Suspect miss took the officer and agents as a rival gang members.

I feel like I've seen a rise in general anti-cop sentiment brought on by a top-down anti-cop attitude from the executive branch before and I feel like I'll see it again.

Thoughts and prayers to the Detective's family. I went to Amazon to purchase his book linked in one of the articles, just to contribute a little to his family. The seller wants $907. smh

We dodged one around the 2016-2017 time frame. He had planned to hit my precinct building, according to sources.
