I am a child of the 80s. I have watched various movies, good and bad, which featured swords. Swords like the one Conan used. Swords like the one Inigo used. Swords from every culture and not from any culture. And I have always wanted one.
What I actually know about using swords couldn’t fill a thimble: “The pointed end goes in the other man.”
The story that most inspired and moved me was not a movie, though: it was Shogun. So I have always wanted *this* sword.
There was grease.
Now there is no grease, just oil.
I ordered a through-hardened 9260 blade from Cheness, an importer of Chinese-forged swords. It’s not a lot of things that would be cool but cost as much as a used car (anything made to traditional standards in Japan or the US). Instead, it cost more than a case of pre-COVID 9mm, but not quite as much as one costs today.
I’m pretty excited about it.
