Thread: Switching Back To PTD Loops From DCC Clips

  1. #11
Nope. I find the DCC clips keep the exact ride height of the pistol grip which is invaluable for maintaining a better AIWB index and draw, for me.

Before switching, I had two otherwise identical rigs, one with DCC clips and one with loops. Spent some time evaluating both. No comparison, for me- the clips were clearly better overall.

The loops main advantage is they allow you to move the rig around quite a bit- which, for me, is also their chief disadvantage. Different people have different priorities, builds, and needs, so it’s great we have such solid choices.

I have both, and continue to use both, on different rigs for the same pistol.

I've never found PTD AIWB rigs difficult to conceal at all, but my shirts aren't especially tight.

The chief benefit of PTD loops IME is instant on-off (DCCs do take a bit more fiddling to get off), which isn't of any concern for me one way or the other.

Two PTD loops are definitely necessary for stability, though (to prevent tilting), and the farther apart, the better, while DCCs keep tilting from happening much even when they're very close together, even adjacent.

I adjust the PTD loops as tight to the belt as possible, and I want the pistol straight-up.

Though I have no current "new holster needs", if I did, the choice between DCCs and PTD loops would be a toss-up.

I use the lowest mounting hole on the PTD Loop which I believe would normally be for a 1 1/4 belt with my Graith Specialist belt which is a 1 1/2 inch wide belt. It doesn't leave much room to angle the snap to fasten them, and I actually can't slide the belt thru the loops once fastened. It keeps the holster from sliding on the belt or moving up and down. I prefer the holster to be rock solid on the belt, so my method might not work for everyone.

How did you get DCC clips on a keeper?

They’re more or less interchangeable for me. My current go to holster is a dark star gear Orion, and PTD loops seem to be a bit more stable on my belt than DCC clips do. On another holster with slightly wider clip spacing like the tenicor velo4, I’m happy to switch back to DCC clips.

I’ll note that properly adjusting PTD loops or crossing them seems to be the most sure way to keep a holster from moving at all on the belt.

I saw it mentioned by @Duke and ordered a monoblock. Bolts right up, but you loose the ability to cant. I'm heafed out with the family but can probably post a picture for you later if you'd like.

Ah, I had forgotten about the monoblock. I’ve got a keeper on the way, I’ll have to pick up a monoblock for it too.

Note, the hardware doesn't have as much clearance and could cause problems. Mine works okay, but any marks on my 92 are superficial.

You also lose the ability to cant.

I do the same as MDFA....using the 1.25" holes makes the loops nice and tight on my 1.5" Wilderness belts. However, they are then too tight to work on a thicker belt, like my 1.5" Magpul Tejas.

I ran the DCC Monoblock on my edc 26.5/JM IWB#3 for a few months and have nothing but good things to say about the Monoblock. It worked well with my Wilderness and Spear belts, fwiw.

However, having the holster sit just behind my belt loop as opposed to straddling the loop seemed to print just a little more and eventually developed a sore spot directly under the holster. I've recently gone back to PTD loops as they just work better for me with this holster.

If/when DCC comes out with some top mounting clips that have the space to straddle a belt loop, I'll order a set post haste.
