Red Dot Tracking Dry Fire

Hi ya,
I've been looking for some tips and tricks to improve RDS tracking in Dry Fire.
I came across a lessonplan which discribed a dry fire dot tracking exercise using a zip tie.
Does someone know what he is talking about?

Yep, theres a YT video somewhere, give me a minute.

Basically you cut the head off a zip tie and place it just ahead of the barrel/breech, taking the gun slightly out of battery but allowing you to work the (mushy) trigger.

I'm not 100% sure what this has to do with dots, so it could be this, or something unrelated.
