These scammers intrigue me. Saw a bunch of them over Covid. First it was sites selling guns for below market, then sites focusing on ammo or even reloading components that no one had in stock anywhere else for prices that were too good to be true.

    Some common threads:

They have things in stock no one else does.

Their prices are too good to be true.

And their “about us” page is generic and banal - something like “we were founded by a group of experts who wanted to bring you the best prices on guns & ammo. We have been in business since 2010 fulfilling our customer’s needs…..”. That’s a dead giveaway.

    Firearmssite.com is a scam

Firearmssite.com is a scam. 586-232-5064 is a scam. Gabe Aceti did not create this site (I know Gabe personally) and has reported this to the ATF . DO NOT DEAL with firearmssite.com.

Checking for brass availability before a potential purchase I ran across: https://starlinebrassusa.com

It's odd how they have the brass but Starline proper lists it as backordered...

Curiosity got the better of me looking at the AEMS Core in the FS section so I started digging around for a low mount. That sight came up and I saw they were asking $350 for the mount. For a $300 sight. Following a hunch I added it to the cart, proceeded to the checkout screen and sure enough there was the big Zelle logo.

Was looking for a P-07 Kadet kit this morning and this one popped up but the logo looked a little…off. Same as above, the only options at czech out are Zelle, Cash App, etc.

    Zelle or crypto only

huh, that one looks kind of legit. They apparently take credit cards (no apps / crypto) and use google for the captcha. Houston area code phone number and address.

    Code:
    xxx@default-application:~$ nslookup mintarmory.com
    Server: 127.0.0.53
    Address:	127.0.0.53#53

    xxx@default-application:~$ host 162.241.159.227
    227.159.241.162.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer jj1.jj10.com.

Looks like a smaller web hosting company out of Atlanta? Traceroute dead ends there, too. Doesn't look like hops off the lower 48. The list of associated domains look like something a smaller hosting company would get; mostly smaller businesses in the same general vicinity (Houston) where the owners likely referred each other, or they had a local sales person. rivascoffee.com has a bunch of MX records that indicate they use google's paid email/workspace.

Getting to the point it's hard to tell the fakes from the legit smaller shops. Or at least the legit shops with paid marketing shills, maybe? Some days I think if someone just Bartmoss'd the net it'd probably be a win.

What tool are you using to search???
I'm a novice... sounds like you know how to do it better, so, would appreciate some additional education...

[ETA: Looks like you are searching the domain name but the spam did not come from the IP associated with that domain IP... I'm sure I'm missing an understanding of the disconnect]

    What I get is....

    The standard linux CLI tools.

The 117 address is the source for who tried to create a pf account (LL @ post #47)

The 162 address is where mintarmory.com is located.

I think these things are usually a case of a scam account being created to shill for a scam website. It looks like they may be a real business that probably paid for a 'marketing' service to 'advertise' for them. That marketing service then probably went around mass registering accounts on the gunternet and started posting about what a good deal they found on mintarmory and you should buy from them because they're awesome, etc etc.

Shill/spam as opposed to outright fraud. See, you have to appreciate the nuance when it comes to scammers on the internet.
