Currently by the ocean in CA and on the move to a more free state. Three more years!
I think just having access to a good rifle and knowing how to use it puts you way ahead of the game. It gives you the power, distance, and accuracy that most adversaries will lack.

Being in CA, I have to use modified AR's, Mini-14's and other CA compliant firearms. About 10 years ago I picked up a Ruger Gunsite and spent a good amount of time practicing with it.

Here is a link to a thread from 2013 after about 2 years of practice:

The rifle is pretty compact, accurate, reliable, and powerful. Since 2013 I have continued to keep up my practice with this rifle and being a hunter more than anything else, the bolt action pattern rifle fits me well. I am not 100% sold on the scout scope but have come to understand its' benefits and its' limitations. I have revisited this from time to time, but end up keeping the scout scope. I do like having access to the action without interference of a scope. I take this rifle when I have a good chance of interacting with a park ranger, fish and game, or county sheriff while out in the deserts or mountains because it does not attract any attention.

When out and about alone I pay attention to my surroundings, pick a camping spot that provides me with a terrain advantage, and keep my rifle handy.

I really don't think we will be handing in our AR type rifles anytime soon, but I also don't sweat the times I am armed with this bolt action rifle. I am not saying that this would be my first choice for a riot, but for a lot of what I do I am more than adequately armed.

As an aside, the Tikka T3x Arctic is also available in 6.5CM.

I saw that. I really have my heart set on a .308, and all I’ve been able to find is the 6.5CM version.

Not very bright but does lack ambition
I’m thinking a Ruger Ranch with the Nodak Spud irons would be a good choice for this. Problem is their chamberings are mostly shit.

Talk about rifles. I cleaned this up twice. Further general political talk will have your access to the thread removed.
Sorta around sometimes for some of your shitty mod needs.

I actually got to fondle an Arctic at the Euro Optic store. It was a bit larger and heavier than my Ruger Scout, the iron sights are nicer. My Ruger is perfectly adequate which probably saved me from dropping $2,000.

This! Only in .300Ham’r is what I want. I have someone who can do the barrel I just need to buy a donor rifle.

Not gonna lie, even though $2k plus for an iron sight .308 bolt action is probably insane, it's really the only modern bolt action I truly have a deep desire to buy lol. It seems like the modern version of a battle rifle bolt action. There might be others with such a pedigree that aren't purely supposed to be DMRs, but I'm not aware of them.

When it comes to handiness and general capacity, I still don’t think you can beat a lever gun. Once you start decking out some of these bolt guns, you’re better off just going back to a varmint contour rifle with a shorter barrel. Thinner barrels heat up and your POI can change pretty significantly after even a dozen shots without a bit of cooling. There’s a reason rifles like the FR-8 and the Enfield No.5 had such an abbreviated history. There’s a YT video out there of a guy who cut down a SMLE (reinstalled the endcap etc) that looks awesome, but it never really states how well it shoots...

sorry, it appeared you didn't know based on that post.

related, but not directed at you, the reason they give up the mk 4 rifle should give anyone pause for depending on such a rifle. same goes for basically any mil surplus rifle. make sure you have spare parts.

as for reviews of the C19, or the commercial equivalent. these are the ones I have found.

The forward mounted scout scope is one of the most misunderstood aspects of Coopers scout rifle concept. Partly because Cooper scattered his thoughts for using it across various writings leaving you to have to piece it together. And partly because it is one of the most under developed parts of the concept. Getting a scope manufacture to do R&D to push development and innovate is near impossible for such a niche market. The closest any manufacture came to really making a must have scout scope was Leopold with their VX-R scout scope which was discontinued unfortunately. It solve a lot of the complains about the forward mounting while retaining the benefits. though it was in intermediate eye relief, not an extended as Cooper preferred.

Low power variable scopes seem to be winning in the market, and these are perfectly acceptable on a scout rifle. as with all things you do gain some with a LPVO, and you lose some with an LPVO. same as you gain and loose with the forward mounted scope.
