I just laughed. My wife watches Dateline all the time.
Just a dog chauffeur that used to hold the dumb end of the leash.

    It keeps going…
    ————
COLUMBIA, S.C. — A prominent South Carolina lawyer has been charged with stealing insurance settlements meant for the sons of his late housekeeper that a lawsuit said total more than $4 million, state police said Thursday.

Alex Murdaugh was arrested at a drug rehab facility in Orlando, Florida, where his attorneys said he has spent the past six weeks since claiming he was shot in the head on the side of a lonely road near his home, authorities said.

The arrest is the latest development in six state police investigations into Murdaugh, including the deaths of his wife and son, millions of dollars missing from the huge law firm founded a century ago by his great-grandfather and trying to arrange his own death so his surviving son could collect on a $10 million life insurance policy.

A little more detail on @peterb ‘s post above. Also, the article mentions that Murdaugh’s filius vivus (living son; who currently has power of attorney for the Murdaugh estate) was recently seen gambling in Vegas.

The third lawsuit asking for control of Murdaugh’s money was filed by the family of Murdaugh’s late housekeeper Gloria Satterfield. She died after a 2018 fall in the family’s home.

Murdaugh has been charged with illegally pocketing nearly $3 million worth of insurance settlements that was supposed to go to Satterfield’s estate.

At his bond hearing, prosecutors detailed how Murdaugh stole the money by diverting it to his accounts. They said he then paid off a $100,000 credit card bill, transferred more than $300,000 to his father and $735,000 to himself.

The lawsuits noted well over half the settlement money remained unaccounted for in the prosecution’s presentation

Bringing this one back to the front page because he was indicted by a Grabd Jury for the murder of his wife and son today.

A grand jury's indictment of South Carolina lawyer Alex Murdaugh on murder charges — saying he killed his wife and son — is the latest bombshell to drop in a case that has transfixed the public.

The grand jury in Colleton County indicted Murdaugh on two counts of murder and two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, state law enforcement officials announced on Thursday.

The investigation into the tragic deaths of Maggie Murdaugh and the couple's son Paul last June pulled the veil back on a privileged family, exposing dozens of alleged financial crimes. It also renewed interest in other recent deaths linked to the family that have not been fully explained.

Here's a brief recap of the shocking and sad events that preceded Murdaugh being charged with murder:

Oh, and he caught these charges in June:

In June, Murdaugh was indicted in what prosecutors said was an eight-year money laundering and painkiller ring that also involved that same friend and former client charged with trying to help him commit suicide.

Murdaugh wrote 437 checks worth $2.4 million that his friend cashed over eight years, keeping some of the money for himself and giving the rest for wide-ranging illegal activities, according to the indictments unsealed last month.

Has anybody been following the trial for this case very closely? The Prosecution rested Friday and the defense goes to work tomorrow. I’ve read a bit about what has been presented so far, but not enough to really speak much about it other than saying that the video taken at the kennels (iirc) @8:44 with Alex Murdaugh’s voice in it and the GPS data from his onstar seem pretty sus.
