    Women's self-defense

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opini...f-defense-law/

An analysis of women using force. The issue being sometimes the use of force is delayed till a time when the victim has an advantage. Also, the abuse is not believed or that other options might have been available.

    Interesting piece.

About how women use violence in abusive relationships and their action is not in direct response to an act. For example, guy beats them and then they stab him later. The rationale is that they don't have the ability for direct combat but can use it later - as when the man is not aware that he will be attacked. Is that attack self-defense? Current law says NO. The author examines the laws and rationales.

As was mentioned in the article, since the 70's we've been talking about battered woman's syndrome and the cycle of violence.

Sometimes these women don't present well, they may have underlying issues such as addictions or lifestyle choices with don't evoke sympathy. It may be difficult for a judge or jury to be particularly sympathetic to the woman's plight after they've heard testimony that she and the abuser were co-dependent alcoholics or drug abusers.

That's not the way it should be, but we can't turn a blind eye to reality.

Through our Church we've helped several folks escape abusive relationships by helping them get furnishings to move into subsidized housing. Generally, they are relocating from a safehouse in another community to our community. I've got to say, even with my background, it plumb pissed me off when I was delivering some new bunkbeds to one lady and her kids which we'd been helping and found that she had contacted her former abuser, told her where she was and that he had moved from Wichita to live with her.

The psychology behind an abused person's actions is often very hard to understand, or accept.

So were they banned before? That's stupid. Plenty of women I knew in TX or NY had OC sprays.

    Here's the list:

    Pepper spray/mace
    Tear gas
    Stun guns
    Other electronic control devices

---------- Other electronic devices - is that having Ultron follow you around?

    Carrying a gun - horrors!

Bans on OC spray are especially revealing about how little some state administrations care about self-defense and women's safety.
