Anyone recommend an OWB leather holster for full size 1911 (10mm) with rail?

I have a new Dan Wesson Specialist which is a full sized (5” barrel) 1911 with a rail. I want an OWB leather holster I can wear with a 1-3/4” wide belt when hunting. I would use at my farm when walking thru woods in case I need to shoot a Coyote or when hunting for deer from a stand or ground blind. Not gonna be used for concealed carry. A holster is nice at my outside pistol range. Want leather to protect the SS finish. I don’t think the caliber is relevant but I put it in title because some of the holster finders online asked for it? I’m guessing the 45 ACP , 9mm and 10mm dimensions are the same or so close it doesn’t matter?

I have a Kramer Belt Scabbard that I’ve used with my Kimber Desert Warrior. I’m pretty happy with it.

Love leather holsters and you have an opportunity to do something fun like a Kirkpatrick or El Paso Saddlery rig for this one -- but:
    1) leather is likely to hold atmospheric moisture close to the gun which could I guess stain the stainless (it isn't 'finished' and just about anything will buff out)
    2) I'd personally prefer some sort of retention for an OWB holster (or a lanyard, or both), so I'd go with a Safariland ALS

The rail makes a difference, the caliber doesn't. You do need to specify your gun is railed, and which one, to the maker. Holster makers also need to know barrel length, 5" in your case, which is also referred to as a Government Model size.

Rails on 1911's have become somewhat common place, and nearly all holster makers offer a holster for a railed 1911.

The most popular OWB styles are versions of a pancake holster (example Simply Rugged Cuda https://www.simplyrugged.com/ecommer...407&parent=669 ) or a Nelson #1 Professional (example Milt Sparks 55BN https://www.miltsparks.com/products-55-bn.php ), also often referred to as an Avenger.

Want leather to protect the SS finish.
It's stainless steel, there isn't anything to rub off. Kydex or leather will each wear on the gun.

    Some well known leather makers

    Mitch Rosen https://mitchrosen.com

    Kramer https://www.kramerleather.com

    Tucker https://tuckergunleather.com

There are many more, those should get you started.

...wear with a 1-3/4” wide belt
Most will offer a holster for a 1.75" belt, but 1.5" is more common, and somewhat of the default size. If you plan to stick with the 1.75" belt, you'll need to pay attention to that when holster ordering.

If I can't wait for a custom option, like Milt Sparks/Privateer/Kramer/etc., I like to check out MidwayUSA for in-stock items.

I have giant Rubbermaid bins of 1911 holsters and I think I've tried everything from top shelf to kitchen kydex. This is just my opinion, but for what it's worth...

The Milt Sparks 60TK is my absolute favorite outside the waistband for actual concealed carry and the Milt Sparks 1RT (uncatalogued) is my favorite for everything else.

I am a big fan of Kramer's Vertical Scabbard in this space using Horsehide as nature's kydex. 14-16 week wait right now.

I am fond of the Milt Sparks Axiom as the snaps allow the holster to come off the belt quickly and easily and the holster is wide enough to distribute the load. Not inexpensive but very high value. It makes for very comfortable all-day carry.

I suggest also considering IWB holsters, even if not concealed, for comfortable carry. The Sparks VM-2 is as comfortable as any OWB of my experience, and the holster can be had with snap loops, magnetic closures (my preference), and/or Kydex clips. The latter have the holster attached to the waistband with the belt over them. It allows tucked carry, something not needed by the OP. Even at home, I use a Sparks IWB holster, either a VM-2 or the (sadly) discontinued HR-LTD.

with a bin full of holsters to remind me that I've tried a whole lot of different makers, I am now loyal to 5Shot Leather. John does amazing work.

I recently received a traditional IWB and an SME (appendix) holsters for a stainless 1911. Both are absolutely great.

My everyday set up is a dotted Glock 45 in an SME holster. Very comfortable and totally concealed.
