Concealed Carry: Street Encounter Skills and Tactics, Multiple Venues June-July

This course is designed to provide students with a holistic and layered approach to effective self-defense, beginning with an understanding of criminal violence and interpersonal conflict and then building skills and tactics to meet those challenges.

    WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is for the person who recognizes that there is much more to armed defense than the gun - that the gun is not a hammer for which all problems are a nail.

If you’ve taken a bunch of gun classes but have realized that there’s more to it than that, this is the class for you.
If you’ve recently bought your first gun, got your CHL and maybe taken a basic pistol class but understand the hammer & nail issue, this class is for you.
If you want to begin to round out, and formalize the layered nature of civilian self defense, this is for you.

Cost: $425, which includes the Eventbrite registration fee, but NOT any associated range fees, which will be location specific.
Requirements: 20 rounds of ball ammunition (factory is MUCH preferred), the pistol you carry, a QUALITY holster (No SERPA type or floppy nylon!) at least 4 magazines, eye and ear protection, weather appropriate clothing, food, water, sunscreen, bug repellent, notepad and pen…the usual stuff you need on the range. Students must have had prior formal training in safety, marksmanship, and drawing the pistol from concealment. All students are expected to arrive at the course well-versed in safe gun handling practices. Each student will receive two POM pepper spray trainers and one POM live agent dispenser as part of the course fee.

For those of you interested in the MeadHall variant of this class John has arranged for there to be at least some ammo available for acquisition for that one as well.

I still need to put the finishing touches on my AAR from the Okeechobee class earlier this year, but in a nutshell...

    TAKE THIS CLASS!

I don't know anyone else on the national level who is combining all these skillsets into a single course. If you want to get a taste of stop-the-bleed, managing unknown contacts, OC spray use, live fire on static, moving, and 3D targets, and some unique visual stimuli presented by someone with loads of personality, all with a very reasonable round count given today's ammunition market, this is the the class to take.

While the serious student should go on to seek out dedicated courses in things like concealed carry, tactical medicine, ECQC, etc., if you're not ready to invest that kind of time into training, this is a great way to get introduced to all those topics in a condensed setting. Even if you do seek out speciality courses, this is still a great offering, as John incorporates some things I have yet to see from any other instructor.

I've taken this class twice now, first in early 2020 and again early this year, and I will undoubtedly take it again next year. If I was going to send someone down the righteous path of armed self defense, first I'd send them to Randy Cain's TH101, then I'd send them to John. That's about the highest praise I can provide.
