I was working under quite a severe base-load of stress at the time, also, which probably increased my vulnerability...long story there as well but yeah, now that you put it on the table I think it makes a ton of sense.

Well, at least that gives me a good path for managing it. Thank you - I mean really thank you - for bringing it up; I hadn't thought of it in those terms but hearing it from you validates a feeling about it that I don't think I'd entirely admitted to myself until now.

More details-- it sounds like it definitely was a rabid bobcat.

“Yes, he’s standing there, with a gun,” the caller said. “If he can shoot it, he will. But, of course, there’s nobody around — he can’t hurt anybody else.”

The dispatcher is heard telling deputies the homeowner had a gun and might shoot the animal when a gunshot rang out.

“Oh, I think he just did,” the dispatcher said.
