    iPhone SE, broken back glass.

Recently I "upgraded" to an iPhone SE from my iPhone 6. Upgrading was not something I really wanted to do, but the 6 was on its last legs and barely working.

Today, like a schemENdrick, I dropped my phone, which of course did not have a case on it. The back glass broke and is pretty damaged. My phone seems to be working fine, and if it is just a cosmetic issue, then I don't care that much about it.

From what I read online, this is not an uncommon issue. The back glass is fragile and people have had it broken even when it was in a case. One story I read said it can happen if it gets squeezed to tightly in your pocket. My iPhone 6 looks like a disaster because I dropped it so much, but it never broke and it lasted me 6+ years.

Have any of you had something similar happen with the back glass on the newer iPhones?

Will the phone work, and I just have to deal with the broken glass?

Will a case, or back glass protector, help prevent further damage?

Could you apply some clear two-part epoxy to keep it from getting worse?

Maybe, I posted on the apple support board, but I am not sure if I will get a response there. Sometimes I miss the phones from the early 2000s.

SEs gonna SE. I’d epoxy it and slap a case on, and probably not put it in my back pocket.

Tell a lie — I insure my phones versus damage, I would just swap out.

Even the insurance is damn high, and I also feel bad about lying in regard to it. It's my screw up, even though the apparently built a fragile device compared to the 6.

Now I am going to order a case and a protector for it.

Thanks for all the tips everyone! Need to look up some techniques with the epoxy so I don't further damage the phone. lol

If you're going to put it in a case, why not just use some clear packing tape, or even duct tape, on the back? All you need it to do is keep from losing chunks of itself, no?

I use Tech 21 for my XR’s case and Zagg for my screen protection. Zagg has a great warranty/replacement program. The combo has saved me multiple times.

This is very bad advice. If you do that, the manufacturer will not service or replace the phone, they will make you buy a new one.

If you pay your phone bill with a credit card, check with the issuer and see if they have a benefit that provides accidental damage coverage. A lot of them do and minimally publicize it.
