Thread: Is Rob Pincus Anti-Gun? Let's Ask Him!

  1. #81
Well, I've talked to him face to face about it absent the idiocy that is the internet. He got played, admits it, and took a couple of weeks worth of hits by the emotion driven crowd @RevolverRob mentioned. Then they moved on to the next screech of the week. The same may be happening to Pincus. I've thought him an experience embellishing egotistical douche for years. I don't follow him, his publications, or statements. I have not trained with him nor do I have any interest in doing so, because I think there is more bullshit than substance in his POI. Whatever nuggets he may have worthwhile aren't worth the price of admission to me. Others disagree and dole out their bucks to him. Not my business and I don't care. That said, it is entirely possible (if not probable) he was also taken out of context by those who thrive on outrage porn. But thats what happens when the village idiot not only has a voice, but the means to take it worldwide instead of ranting on a corner in their neighborhood.

    Simply genius.

You know, I found nothing really egregious in that video until they started playing vampire bat. Besides pointless, I'm pretty certain each one of them had the muzzle of a loaded pistol under their chin for multiple reps. Nope, nothing could go wrong there. Nothing at all.

Fuckin' A that's a fantastic description of the internet and Twatterverse as there ever has been.

Kudos to those who seek to reach out and explain pro-Second Amendment positions in a patient, articulate manner.

    ...but...

At this point, there should be every expectation an interviewer will edit, doctor, or paraphrase your interview. The changes will twist the meaning and intent of what you say to reflect what the interviewer wants the message to be.

The examples of once-reputable organizations doing this are numerous and not just limited to matters of the Second Amendment.

I suggest anyone given such an opportunity would be well-advised to require the interviewer to sign an agreement. The agreement should state you will also record the interview on your own equipment, you retain all ownership rights to the recording you make, and you may release it in whole or part at any time. When the interview starts, set up your own camera on a tripod and roll.

If the interviewer refuses, you know what the real plan was. Walk. We all benefit when someone avoids the trap.

Well, there you go, now you also understand the reason for holster retention rules, because you got to have the gat when you're upside down.

Too many people are ready to crucify one another as non-believers at the drop of a hat. The other side has been working on divide and conquer for decades and it's working. If we want to establish an "Us vs. Them" mentality, let's get the parties sorted out:

    Citizens (Us) vs. Politicians (Them)

If Pincus is doing lobbying on behalf of Brady; hang him high. If all he is doing is pointing out we're subdividing ourselves to our own detriment* then...he must be a witch?!

*When people get mad at me, for pointing out the nuance of something, and suggesting some kind of solution, Mrs. RR says, "Don't make sense. People don't like it when you make sense." She is right: People don't like sense, they like emotion. Emotion is easier to deal with than logic.
Pincus accuses the gun community of eating their own in response to the criticism he has received for his supposed efforts on the pro-gun stance.

    This is intellectually dishonest.

In this specific case the issue is not the pro-gun community eating their own, but rather we don't agree with Pincus' changing stances, and in some cases don't like him as a person given his background and history.

He also teaches poor techniques cloaked pseudo-scientific terms aimed at lower information shooters. He also does not do his own firearms shooting demonstrations in his classes and teaches his instructors to do likewise. There is also that nonsensical flinch response that he incorporates incorporates into his drawstroke. I will get to that later if I get a chance.

The following incident illustrates Rob's attitude and why he comes off as someone who often tries to pontificate beyond his knowledge and experience and as a result looks like a tool.

A bit over a decade ago Rob was at a group dinner after a firearms exposition in Europe. Rob found himself seated with numerous industry people. Someone asked another person at the table about shooting people in the pelvis. Rob started pontificating, at which point the person who the question was directed at stopped Rob and said, "Wait a minute, Rob; exactly how many people have you shot in the pelvis? I've shot five or six." That person was a veteran of a Special Operations Unit who was part of the Battle of The Black Sea in Somalia--made famous by the movie Blackhawk Down.

    Just because it bears repeating.

One of my favorite things is to watch what happens when an overconfident charlatan lectures a group that includes a true expert.
