    Dan Wesson Specialist Owners-Question Please

I bought my 1911 Dan Wesson Specialist used and recently took it down for cleaning etc, and noticed some marks on the frame and recoil spring guide. Can anyone look at this picture and tell me if it looks like their Specialist? The marks on the rear of the guide match marks in the frame where it rides. I’m worried it is beating itself to death. I know nothing about the gun. I did replace the recoil spring and the firing pin spring today. The recoil spring is a 18.5lb now. I will have to order a new mainspring for it. It should be a 23lb correct?

Not sure what marks you're referring to here, I can't see anything odd. Can you post a picture of the frame and a close up of the damage you're seeing on the recoil guide rod?

23# is correct. But I doubt you need to replace the mainspring.

The portions that are standing proud on that guide is what concerned me. The square at the bottom and raised are around the circle. I’ve messed with a few colts and didn’t remember ever seeing those marks on one of them.

Ah, those look to me to be machining marks.

I'd examine the area under magnification, but as long as the guide rod itself is straight and the rounded edges are uniform in thickness (minus the proud parts), I wouldn't worry about it.

If those are battering marks the guide rod is coming apart, there is almost no way the guide rod will be straight and looked at from the side the edge is not going to be plumb or uniform in thickness.

    I too see nothing odd.

this is my battering ram (HA!) back end. this image was around 13-14K

I look for uniformity and check my springs every few months. my shooting has slowed down but I hope Wolff sends me some 17# recoil springs that I ordered a month ago.

Those are simple contact points. You're going to get points of impact in these areas, it's just a fact of life.

    Nothing to see here.

From the factory it should of had an 18lb mainspring, unless they have recently changed. Factory recoil would of been 18lb from a 45.
