He was 84. (If you’ve not read Lonesome Dove, then for shame.)
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

    We don't rent pigs.

    Great writer. Great Texan.
"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells." Robert Ruark

One of the greatest writers of his generation.
We may lose and we may win, but we will never be here again.......

    Liked the books I read.
Also the TV series made from a couple of them.

"Have you ever killed?" Gus asks. Then rides into the outlaw camp and settles all their
    hash himself.
    Great scene.

Saw "The Last Picture Show" in the theater. (Rare for me to go there now.)
    Was impressed (mostly).

Oof, that one hurts. How can a book be so good, and the movie/series equally strong? We are diminished.

“They don’t know it, but the wrath of the Lord is about to descend on them.”
That and “whackin’ a surly bartender”are so great.

RIP Mr. McMurtry. As Gus would say it’s been a hell of a party.
