Someone’s competition gun maybe? My limited knowledge and experience with moons is based on rimless cartridges. Are there moons specifically for rimmed cartridges or are 9mm moons also good for.38?

There are indeed moon clips for rimmed cartridges. I think it’s mostly a competition thing.

For me, having that extra refinement is worth it. I have two "service revolvers" that have been through the S&W Performance Center for their "Combat Revolver Package", an M10-8 and an M681-2. Both were bought used, though the 681, a Puerto Rican LE trade-in, was apparently never issued and appeared unfired. Both were tuned by the same long-time S&W revolversmith. Both have wonderfully smooth DA pulls that are 100% reliable with anything I've put through them. The M10 was my IDPA revolver for several years when I was actively competing, so it has multiple thousands of rounds of +P-level ammo through it. I don't shoot the 681 much anymore because my enthusiasm for .357 Magnum recoil has dimmed now that I'm in my seventies, but it does see service when hiking.

There's little-to-no financial ROI on custom work to a revolver. The ROI comes with the shooting.

Just learned that this LGS/range existed near me: Highsmith Guns, Greenfield, IN.

I was in a hurry to pick up some earpro for my 6yr old and only took a rushed look through the store, but had a completely pleasant interaction with the staff. Saw these old revolvers and snapped some quick pics in case they proved of interest to anyone here.

Interesting gun. 5 screw post WWII transition M&P, doesn’t seem likely that it’s actually a 10.

Price seems a bit high.

Last one I got was a 10 (-8, IIRC, don’t feel like getting up and digging it out of the safe), and it was like $380. Very shiny, near perfect, I may keep it as a never carry or shoot gun. December 2022.

That PP has me thinking, though.
