    School me on the best way to put a modern scope on an old rimfire

    Folks, I have a few old-school .22 rifles, complete with old-school weaver scopes on them. The rifles still drive tacks with class, but the heyday of the old glass has passed.

    First up is my adult-sized Marlin Levermatic. I want to put some good glass on that thing. Help a bro out: mounts, scope.

    Thanks in advance for the advice.

    If it has the standard 3/8" dovetail on the receiver, that's probably the easiest way to go about it - plenty of quality rings available;

    Otherwise you will need a dedicated mount or need to install a rail.

    For scopes you can (as you know) really go off the deep end on high-end stuff, but I have found these scopes to be excellent for .22 rimfire use, especially the adjustable objective that will focus down to about 20 feet;

    I've had the Ultra RM 3-9x32 and now the Ultra RM 4.5-14x40, and both have been amazing for the $$. Made in Japan by LOW.

    Looks like a Weaver one piece base #58 will work if it has the screw holes already. Then you need Weaver rings. I might have a set. I'll look.

    Don't have any. Just looked.

    Vortex’s less expensive lines are perfect for rimfire. Good reticles and features for the money. Good enough glass and durability and decent pricing.

    Pretty sure I used weaver rings to put a Leupold rimfire scope on my Marlin 60 from my childhood. Works great, and the scope is a big improvement over the Tasco that the rifle came with. I can pull it out of the safe later and take a look at the rings to make sure.
