IL Governor Signs "Anti-Police Bill" into Law

How many times have we learned that recall of traumatic events is almost always going to be erratic? And now, if I'm reading this correctly, Chicago LEO will have to write their reports without the benefit of reviewing their own now-mandated body cameras first.

Man, maybe I just have a historically skewed viewpoint, but it sure seems like we’ve reached a far point in culture where advancing legislation *requires* a fundamental disconnect from objective data and reality.

No Taser usage in the back? Is this some Old West honor code thing or just idiots not knowing how a Taser works and best practices writing law? (rhetorical)

You know what I’ve never seen in any mainstream story or article on police UoF reform, despite myriad examples from the second half of last year?

An appearance by an SME or active police trainer. No certified instructors of LVNR in any story on “chokeholds,” etc.

That’s like having an entire year of mainstream splash page COVID stories, and never quoting an infectious disease specialist. It’s comically absurd.

Folks are encouraged to change my mind, but I’m not going to hold my breath while waiting for a counter-example.

I think the idea is that the subject should have the opportunity to see what is coming and surrender, and is deprived that opportunity if zapped in the back. Typing that made me spill my coffee due to laughing.

Taser to the back is not unlawful around here, but as agencies re-write policies to conform to the new law passed last year, no taser to the back is becoming common. There must be something circulating around the country at chief levels.

Given that head, neck, throat and groin were already off limits, and that, as to any excessive force, we have increased civil liability, criminal liability and the potential for being de-certified, this will be challenging. Front only, belly button to nipples, (except females, for whom breasts are off limits) and don't miss or you go to internal affairs or worse. Hmm, given the current societal views regarding gender identity, I am not sure that anyone should be targeted above the belly button unless we first ask the subject to identify their gender.

Oh, and pointing a taser at someone requires a "show of force" report. Fuck it, I'll just carry OC. I guess we won't taser the recruits anymore? Or are are we going to hit em' in the front and hope we don't screw up and put an eye out?

Ok, I feel better now that I got that off my chest. Or breasts. Or whatever.

Some days I really wonder where the path this country is going down will lead.

Well, "wonder" may be the wrong word.

The great thing about mass institutionalized historical ignorance is that it lets stupid ideas with long histories of utter failure get implemented, because most people don't know it didn't work the first time.
