According to @Dagga Boy and @Wayne Dobbs, it's more rare than a Hanen Special. We'll see if it shoots as well.

I am guessing it was some sort of test or trial gun that the Air Force wanted, but never adopted.
Way to top the thread, dude!

Dave - I'm sure they could do it if they wanted to. People who would buy a 3" K frame are a niche market; people who would buy them to shoot as we do are a tiny corner of that niche. My guess, too, is that people who would want one now would turn their noses up at current production stuff because it's current production, and not from the glory days. From a business perspective, it doesn't make sense to offer a relatively low-demand revolver that costs more to produce and requires more labor when they aren't able to keep up with the demand for their autoloaders. Maybe that'll change when the current craziness recedes. Right now, I'd be glad to source a hammer for my 19-3, and that's not going well.

Frigging Colt seems to now have a better handle on the current market. Colt, for shit's sake, a company that regularly goes bankrupt.

Not sure if this helps but Numrich looks to still have some complete K frame hammer assembllies in stock plus some stripped hammers as well.

Oh be still my heart! That is a great score! Can't wait to see it when it gets to its new home and that letter.

Those woodlawn boys seem to always have a great selection of vintage S&W revolvers/pistols. Others makes as well.
