I would love to have an M1 Thompson...or at least be able to afford one.

Is that the pistol or are things so wonderful in Kansas that the local gun stores stock Class 3 and SBRs?

There's a stock on there. This is a modern semi-auto version. It's owned by one of the young guys at the LGS and he wanted to show it off. At least he filled out the paperwork for the appropriate barrel, instead of one of those ridiculous rifle length jobs. That being said, Kansas is awesome in many ways, but we like to promote the "fly over country" image. It keeps out the undesirables.

Having spent time with the genuine article years ago, it brought back fond memories.

The owner handed it to me then said "oh man, I've got to have a picture of that!"

I spent most of my formative years in KC, (I don't like to admit I'm a California native). Back then KC was a great place to grow up. I spent the first 13 years of my LE career in the southwestern part of the state, before transferring back to the Wichita area, where I spent the last half on the midnight shift as part of the circus that is the Kansas Turnpike. Eastern and western Kansas are two entirely different worlds.
