As for a once in a lifetime event in Texas, I’ll disagree. Seems like the most famous recent ice storm happened a few years ago when the Super Bowl was in Arlington.
As for the power stuff- nothing anyone can do and I understand. I admit- I do enjoy hearing the windmills are frozen. Wonder what AOC is thinking right now.

Our fix for living in an area with frequent outages (in this case, Santa Cruz County up Highway 9 and outside city limits) was a vintage stove with a professional propane jet conversion. Ours was made in 1935, and would burn wood for the two burners on the far right. Our next place will likely have the same. The constant pilot light added about $5 monthly to our propane bill, but the range had the best burner controls of any I've yet used, including modern Viking units. It did weigh nearly 600 lbs, though.
There are much less idiosyncratic choices, of course.
