    Holster options for Uberti 1858?

Well I purchased a 5.5 inch barreled Uberti 1858 .44, and I am now looking for a decent holster for it that won't break the bank. Main uses for the gun are largely recreational of course, but I wouldn't mind taking it along as a backup during muzzleloader season either.

My own searching has found a couple of options on Ebay and Etsy, of which I'm not sure, and I have no experience with most if the styles of holster that are generally offered for this type of gun.

I used one of these Slim Jim holsters. I don't remember the make.

Some years ago this guy made me a slim jim that works very well with my 1858 army but he may not fit the "don't break the bank". There are lots of decent hobby artisans who do sell them on ebay for less expensive prices. But my use is CAS competition. Were I to want to carry one in the woods I would consider a cavalry style flap holster, of which there are many makers for that size gun.

That was a Triple K brand. They've been around as an economical choice for years. I believe their quality has actually improved over what it was back in the 1970s when I first ran across their stuff.

Is Triple K a pretty safe option? My mental association of them is with Cheaper than Dirt catalogs, so I generally dismiss the brand.

I have to admit looking at the Mernickle website options longingly, but I think any kind of custom option should be held off until I have figured out what might work for me on cheaper options first.

Just realized I posted this in the revolver section, and not the holsters and accessories area where it actually belongs.
My apologies and could I request the mods move it to the appropriate area?

    MW,
When searching for a holster search for Remington 1858 and you may get better results.
Like BN said you would be looking for Slim Jim style holster.
There are many holster makers for that gun from mass produced (inexpensive) to custom (expensive). You usually get what you pay for.
If you are carrying recreationally and occasionally for hunting most of the mass produced holsters from known makers will work for you. Although custom rigs are pretty nice.
Where the inexpensive holsters fail is heavy use and don't "wear" well over the long haul. An expensive custom rig could be handed down to your heirs.
I shoot cowboy action matches and am a member of SASS. The Single Action Shooting Society.
You might try their web site https://www.sassnet.com/ for venders that sell to the cowboy shooters.
If you have a sturdy belt I recommend a belt mounted holster as opposed to a drop or Buscadero style. The gun will carry more easily and move around less when you walk.
I could list a number of holster makers here but the list would be lengthy.
Two makers worth looking at would be,

A simple search for Remington 1858 5.5 inch holster will get you a lot of options.
Found this one on ETSY https://www.etsy.com/listing/6917762...=1&pro=1&frs=1 I thought looked kinda nice.
    Good luck.
