    New members CANNOT send PMs!

You must first make a post and have it approved! This is in your welcome email, but I see that isn't getting read. This step is in place due to spammers abusing the private messaging function.

On another forum where I am a Mod, we went a few years requiring new member approval before the account would be made active. Automated email verification and a (manual) IP and email (spam list) search. It was a PITA, but worth it in terms of stopping spam.

    Thanks LL.

If it becomes a problem, up the count to five posts. My hazy recollection is that I'm on other forums that set the bar there.
