    Bought a New S&W 686+ Snubnose Today!

My wife and I drove past a gun shop we hadn’t been to in 20 years, and walked out with the 2.5” 686+ I’ve been looking around for. The barrel is straight, and lock up is super tight. It does have a gap on the upper and lower lug portions of the barrel, but the business portion is TIGHT. The timing is perfect. The best part was the price. They had it at a pre-Wu Flu $800, so that’s good.

Thanks! I have a 4” model, but really had the itch for a snubnose. It’s still a large revolver, but will fit on my waist. The 4” rides in a shoulder holster.

Nice. I had a 3" for a few years which I sold to my neighbor a year or so back for home defense.

How did you check barrel straightness and cylinder timing? I’m eyeballing a 3” 686+ at my LGS and am fairly new to revolvers but have the itch for a bigger platform.

    Here’s a barrel with alignment issues: https://youtu.be/ix-nfKmNchE
Here’s how to check for timing: https://youtu.be/L_lCEgkdX0U

Newer Smith&Wesson revolvers should have a spent case or two in the charging holes to make sure the extractor isn’t moving too much.
