I'm really sorry for these agents, but putting these people in prison is truly doing God's work.
I arrested one in the mid 80's, (and confiscated his shoe boxes full of images), it took all I could do to keep my hands off him...and I didn't have enough hot water to feel clean after the arrest.

He was a physician, of all things...and (illegal) drugs were employed...to some extent, in his sordid activities.
There's nothing civil about this war.

When I was a recruit, we were encouraged to find a project. I found a stack of papers on people who had failed to to update their sex offender registry. It occurred to me"I can get PAID to arrest these guys."

I tracked one down to his mom's apartment complex. As I was turning in, he drove out in mom's car. I did a traffic stop on him and the first word's out of his mouth were "The stuff in the trunk isn't mine, I'm just delivering it."

In one of my finer moments, I said, "Yeah, I figured you were just the delivery guy. How about you step out, sign this consent to search and see what we can figure out?"

I sat him down on the curb in handcuffs, and my FTO stood next to him. I was expecting drugs but when I popped the trunk, I found duffle bags full of freshly printed, violent child porn.

I looked over at the guy and my FTO stepped between me and him. Later in the car he told me he saw the look on my face and for a second he thought I was going to go over and soccer kick the guy in the face.

I still have nightmares about some of the stuff I saw in those pictures, and anybody who does anything to put those vile people in jail has my respect.

There was a guy, two years behind me in law school, who got a job after graduation. A few years later, he took the day off for some reason. the following day, he came back into work early, saw that his computer was gone, and he disappeared.

Seems that somebody needed to use a computer, his was available, and that person somehow stumbled upon a cache of images.

They caught the guy several months later and, last I heard, he was doing a very long stretch in prison. (If he hasn't been shanktified by now.)

Back about fifteen years ago, Ohio had an interesting plea offer for those assholes. If they pled guilty, they'd go to a prison with a lot of similar convicts in it; those guys would look out for each other. If they were found guilty at trial, they'd go into genpop at some other prison. I gather that they didn't do a lot of trials.

    But on another note:

A local said on the news that he was awakened by the sound of rifle fire at around 5:30 AM. Is it possible that this began as some dude only knowing that his door was being kicked in before sunup and he responded in a way that a lot of people would to such a thing happening?
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

The bad guy observed the Special Agents on his doorbell camera and opened fire through the door.

Seems like we need to revert back to one on the porch, one in the shadows on over-watch.

RIP agents, my prayers for your families and co-workers as well.

    Straight up ambush, right there.

Are LEOs updating protocols in the “ring” era? I sure hope so.

I think doorbell cameras are a game changer. While some bad guys have used security cameras for years, those would require some effort to set up and monitor. A doorbell cam gives someone an easy way to see who is at the door before opening it. Couple that with technology that more easily allows setting up and monitoring surveillances cameras and we have a world in which bad guys can see us outside, whether we're an FBI team on a felony warrant or a couple of patrol troops on a loud noise complaint. While a warrant team can switch tactics from a door hit to a car stop in many cases, patrol officers don't have that option running calls for service.

Do a car stop instead of hitting a door and have it turn sour, and everyone on the interwebs will still piss on your grave and say, "BuHT diDNt they LERN fr0m 1986!!!11!"

One of my most tactically aware sergeants was fond of saying, "Some days, shit sandwiches are on the menu."
